The most powerful male name in America has been revealed and it’s probably not what you’re thinking.

Naming your child comes with all sorts of issues and it’s no joke.

First, you need to know if it’s going to age well, and then whether it’ll still be a good name to have when years pass.

As well as making sure it goes well with the last name, you also should consider if you know anyone else who is calling their kid the same thing to avoid doubling up - and there are some names that it's illegal to call your child.

Names are always based on personal preference too, so don’t be worried if someone else isn’t keen on your pick.

But a good way to know you’ve got a classic name on your hand that might bode well for their future is when it appears at the top of a list debating the most powerful names in the country.

A new study has just provided the one name that you very well may want to consider.

That’s because 21 of Fortune 500 company CEOs all bear it.

Profit Engine conducted the study to see whether someone’s name had any impact on a person’s professional life.

“The patterns we discovered were quite striking,” Jason Morris, CEO of Profit Engine said in a statement. “While correlation doesn’t equal causation, these results definitely make you wonder if there’s something to the old saying about names shaping destiny.

“These findings reveal something notable about representation in American corporate leadership. The complete dominance of traditional male names isn’t a coincidence.”

The name in question?

Robert.

Whether they shorten it to Rob, Robbie, Bert or anything else, Robert has been found to lead many companies.

For example, Disney’s CEO is Robert Iger, and so is Boeing’s boss Robert Kelly Ortberg.

“Robert has been a powerhouse name for decades,” Morris stated in the Press Release. “It projects authority and tradition, both of which are qualities that boards of directors clearly value when selecting leadership.”

But Robert hasn’t been very popular since 2000, when it was at its height.

If you don’t like Robert, Profit Engine found that male Fortune 500 CEOs were more likely to have traditional names than others - and revealed the top ten.

Top ten most powerful male baby names

  1. Robert
  2. Michael
  3. James
  4. John
  5. Christopher
  6. William
  7. David
  8. Mark
  9. Timothy
  10. Brian

“These findings reveal something notable about representation in American corporate leadership,” Morris said. “The complete dominance of traditional male names isn’t a coincidence. It reflects decades of systemic patterns in who climbs the corporate ladder.

“What’s particularly telling is that we’re not seeing the diversity of names that reflects modern America. No Aidens [or] Ethans, despite these being popular baby names in recent decades. This suggests either a generational lag or that certain naming conventions still carry unconscious advantages in professional settings.”

As of this year, Liam, Noah, Oliver, James, Mateo, Theodore, Elijah and Henry are the most popular baby names, as per the Social Security Administration.

At least there is one ‘powerful’ name in there too.

What about the most powerful female names?

While the Profit Engine study didn't look at female names, a quick glance at the list of Fortune 500 CEOs reveals a few trends.

There are currently 55 female CEOs of Fortune 500 companies, and the most popular names are Jennifer (four CEOs), Kathleen (three CEOs), Mary (two CEOs) and Susan (two CEOs).

The fact that we don't have that much data to work with on female CEOs also unfortunately speaks volumes.
