Tony Danza criticised over uncomfortable red carpet interview

The actor told a reporter to 'come up with better questions'.

Tony Danza is being criticised on social media for his awkward interview with a reporter on a red carpet.

The Who’s the Boss? star, 72, was being interviewed by reporter, Rye Myers during the opening night of New York, New York, on Broadway.

Myers, who has since shared the interaction on TikTok, asks Danza and Broadway producer Jamie deRoy how they’re doing and while the producer says she’s ‘excited,’ Danza seems caught off guard by Myers’ excitement.

"Relax a little", the Don John actor responds. "You're more excited than we are. Take it easy."

The interview did not go as expected.

After one more question, the interview comes to an abrupt end after Myers asks Danza and deRoy to reveal their ‘favourite New York City staple food item’ and the choice is between hot dogs and pizza.

Well, if you were on the edge of your seats waiting to hear Danza’s big city snack is, then you’ll be waiting a lot longer.

The Taxi actor, who was clearly unimpressed with the food-themed question, instead pats Myers on the cheek.

“You know what you’ve got to do, buddy, you’ve got to come up with better questions,” he replies as he leads deRoy away from the interview and says he has ‘to go’.

The video received over 128,000 views as of Sunday (30 April) with commenters – including Michael Bublé – weighing in on the interview.

Myers captioned his post in part: "To say I was blown away, shocked, and embarrassed is an understatement…But, my professionalism showed through!"

In the comments section, he clarified that all the reporters at the red carpet event were asking ‘New York-themed’ questions because of the play.

Many criticised Danza, saying they 'didn't like his vibe', calling the actor 'condescending' and 'super demeaning'.

One commenter wrote: ‘We all forgot about Tony until this video so I’d say you’re doing just fine.”

Another TikTok user replied: “I hope he watches this back and learns to be kind. You handled that beautifully.”

A third shared: “I didn’t like his vibe, He should be glad people still want to talk to him.”

Meanwhile, Michael Bublé said: “I think you’re amazing Ry. I’ll have a pizza with ya. Let’s not invite Tony.”
