Reason why Zac Efron was hospitalized after being found in pool has been revealed

An insider has revealed the reason Zac Efron was hospitalized after he was involved in a swimming accident.

Over the weekend, reports emerged Efron had been involved in 'minor swimming incident' in a pool in a hotel in Ibiza, Spain.

The 36-year-old was taken to hospital and later spoke out about the incident.

TMZ reported sources claimed Efron went for a swim on Saturday morning (3 August) but when he dived in the pool, his chest allegedly hit the bottom of the pool.

When he came back up he reportedly showed signs of 'distress'.

The actor is reported as having been helped out of the pool and Efron's representatives confirmed he was involved in a 'minor swimming incident' and was taken to hospital as a 'precautionary measure'.

And sources have since come forward with the alleged reason Efron was hospitalized.

TMZ reports when Efron dived into the water and hit the bottom of the pool, the actor 'ingested a large amount of water into his lungs' and was 'momentarily dazed'.

He subsequently underwent a chest x-ray at a local hospital.

Thankfully, the x-ray showed his lungs were water-free and he was allowed to go back in a matter of hours, feeling 'just fine,' according to his representatives.

Efron later took to his Instagram story on Sunday to thank fans for the 'well wishes' adding he was feeling 'happy and healthy'.

Despite the all-star cast, the rom-com has left viewers divided, with some having branded the movie 'cringe'.

However, the film did make it to the top spot on Netflix and other social media users have taken to their keyboards after spotting what they theorize is a 'sad' real life reference to the actor's appearance - which has faced uncomfortable scrutiny in recent years, after Efron was involved in another accident in November 2013.

The High School Musical star fell and broke his jaw while running through the house with his socks on. It caused damage to his face muscles and when they grew back again, they grew back differently, resulting in his appearance changing.

Unfortunately, his change in facial appearance led to speculation on social media about whether or not he'd undergone plastic surgery of some sort.

Efron resolved to Men's Health at the time: "If I valued what other people thought of me to the extent that they may think I do, I definitely wouldn’t be able to do this work."
