Fans think they’ve spotted ‘sad’ real life reference to Zac Efron’s appearance in number one Netflix film

It's a crazy connection to make

Zac Efron’s newest film has dropped on Netflix, and immediately shot up to number one on the charts.

Efron’s resurgence in the last few years has seen the actor in a number of outstanding films, whether it be as wrestler Kevin Von Erich in Iron Claw or as Ted Bundy in Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile.

In his newest Netflix film, however, fans have noticed a ‘sad’ reference to the actors appearance.

Efron’s appearance has seen uncomfortable speculation in recent years, with the actor facing constant questions surrounding his looks.

Efron has stated in the past that the difference in his appearance has a reason, and it is nothing to do with him having cosmetic surgeries as is often rumoured.

The High School Musical star fell and broke his jaw in November of 2013, which meant his jaw and face muscles had to work harder.

This led them to grow, and his changed appearance.

In his newest film A Family Affair, there is a subtle reference which fans think they’ve figured out is a reference to all this discussion.

The film, in which Efron plays a fictional movie star, has him talking with Nicole Kidman’s character about how people speculated that he had a fake ‘quad job’ leading him to need to sue People Magazine.

He goes on to say he’s only ever had one surgery, on his chin after having ‘fallen on set’.

One fan on Twitter spotted the connection, posting the scene saying: “This scene in A Family Affair gagged me because it’s so true to Zac’s real life as a celebrity and how there’s constant rumors about his body image, and all the 'surgeries' he’s gotten.

“Even the part about his jaw! Spot on.”

Another fan responded with: “Awww that’s funny but also sad”.

Zac Efron has spoken in the past about struggling with his body, stating he was left with ‘pretty bad depression’ after his experience on Baywatch in which he had to get ripped in a comparable way to The Rock.

A Family Affair arrived on Netflix this weekend, and is not only the number one film in the US on the platform, but across the globe.

It follows Efron playing an actor who falls in love with his assistant’s mother.

Whilst fans have compared the movie to The Idea of You, a movie with a very similar plot, that hasn’t stopped fans loving A Family Affair.

One fan posted on Twitter to say: “Watching A Family Affair and it is actually delightful”.

Whether you like the movie or not, by it shooting straight to number one, it’s clear Zac Efron can’t miss at the moment.
