Nick Jonas has confirmed the real reason he walked out of the Golden Globes after a viral video showed him leaving the star-studded event alone.

The former Disney star, 33, was seen drinking from a bottle of water outside Sunday's awards ceremony at the Beverly Hilton hotel in downtown Los Angeles while smartly dressed in a tux in a clip shared by Parade Magazine.

When one fan re-shared the footage on X, formerly known as Twitter, the clip garnered more than two million views and even caught the attention of the Jonas Brothers singer himself.

"Social anxiety got the best of him," the fan speculated, after seeing Jonas taking a break to grab some fresh air outside.

Much to their astonishment, Jonas, who had attended the event with his glamorous wife Priyanka Chopra Jonas, 43, then delighted fans with a rare response on social media.

He said: "Yeah…it hit me like a gut punch," referring to his new song of the same name.

One fan soon gushed: "Omg hi you’re doing amazing bestie :)))."

Another explained: "All people need a break sometimes. It’s not that deep."

A third added: "Those events are exhausting. Looks like fun, but imagine going to your company's party and your bosses are there, your bosses' bosses, the owner, all the investors, and all the media. And then mobile warriors at home screenshotting every possible move to make you look like a fool."

Gut Punch is the lead single from Jonas' upcoming album, Sunday Best, and sees the Camp Rock star opening up about his role as a husband to wife Priyanka and a father to daughter Malti Marie, three.

In a statement about the track to PEOPLE Magazine, he reflected: "I tend to be hypercritical of myself, not typically about my appearance or getting older, but I was wondering, ‘Am I doing everything to be the best version of myself? Am I a present and thoughtful husband? Am I a good father?

“As time goes by, the stress and complications of life will weigh on you. It’s important to remember there was once a version of you who was carefree and loved the world."

The lyrics themselves read: "Hit me like a gut punch / I hurt my own feelings / How did I get so good at being mean to myself?

"I should turn the heat down / Tell myself to chill out / Damn I really hate the way I talk to myself."

Later, the song turns to subjects including self-compassion and pushing down feelings of dislike, with Jonas singing: "Now what would it be like / If I just tried being nice / To the person that I'm seeing in the mirror?"

Nick also has Type 1 diabetes and has previously been open about his mental and physical health.

He told PEOPLE previously: "I think that mental and emotional health aspect of it is really important. I certainly speak to my therapist - and luckily, I’ve got a really good support system around me and a great set of doctors."
