When it comes to food, it’s safe to say that Martha Stewart knows her stuff – but her unique method of eating a bagel has massively divided the internet.
The Yes, Chef! judge shared her baffling method on Friday (December 12), taking to Instagram to explain her tried-and-tested method for making the most of the delicious baked staple.
Traditionally, many Americans like to tuck into their bagels whole, sliced in half, or topped with a variety of fillings such as cream cheese, smoked salmon, or jam.
Yet for Martha, this doesn’t quite hit the spot as she prefers to deconstruct her bagel into much smaller bite-sized pieces, which she said was taught to her by her daughter, Alexis Stewart.

Sharing a series of images documenting the method, Martha wrote: “Taught years ago by my daughter Alexis Stewart 1. choose a @popupbagels bagel I love poppyseed

"2. Cut in half 3. Take a half of a half and break into sweet little pieces 4. Sweet little pieces can be topped with flavored or unflavored cream cheese.”
According to the beloved cookbook writer, this method ‘always leaves her satisfied’ – however, the same can’t be said for her fans, who were less convinced by the unique choice.
“Love you Martha but it’s 2025 we can eat whole bagels now,” wrote one social media commentator.
“Idk about this one, diva,” commented another fan, while someone else echoed: “This is unhinged, Martha.”

Another then added: “Martha I love you more than my own family, but this is utterly unacceptable, and I implore you to repent for your sins.”
One commenter even took things a step further and said: “Straight to jail.”
Meanwhile, others were confused by the lemon on the plate, as someone said: "What’s the lemon for? Is it just an aesthetic?"
However, while the method may have seemed entirely bonkers, it was perhaps for good reason as Stewart later edited her post to include the disclaimer: “CAN'T ANYONE TAKE A JOKE?????? YIKES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?!!!!anyway it's very satisfying to eat a bagel like this.”

PopUpBagels, the chain mentioned by Stewart, also weighed in on the method, as their founder, Adam Goldberg, told TODAY: “PopUp Bagels is known for eating bagels a little differently — Grip, Rip and Dip style.
"That being said, we encourage everyone to enjoy their bagel however they want, which is why we sell them hot and whole.
“Martha just took that idea to a whole new level, and we love seeing all the creative ways people make it their own.”
To each their own, I guess.
