Madonna has revealed the one thing that 'saved her life' after a rough few years.

In 2023, it was widely reported that the singer had been taken to hospital with a 'serious bacterial infection' and had ended up in intensive care after her health deteriorated.

The days that followed were precarious for the star, with a person allegedly close to Madonna claiming that 'her family was preparing for the worst'.

Thankfully, the 67-year-old did make a full recovery, and she has since spoken about her experience.

During a recent appearance on Jay Shetty's podcast, On Purpose with Jay Shetty, Madonna opened up about how her new spiritual life has taken on a great level of importance.

"You need to be spiritual to be successful," she said. "Success is having a spiritual life, period. I wouldn’t be here if I didn’t have one."

She added: "What have I done for others? That's really the only way you can be successful in life. It’s like the greatest amount of light is where there’s darkness and you can reveal the most amount of light.

"When you’re in a dark room, you turn on the light. When you’re in a room that’s already light, what do you, there’s no, um, effort made. So, should we look for darkness? My soul’s purpose is to reveal light in the world through whatever I do."

Madonna continued: "Spiritual wisdom is not helpful when everything's going your way. It's helpful when you're challenged and when you're happy.

"It’s helpful to remember that at any given time, in any moment, it could be gone. So don’t take it for granted. Have humility. Radical acceptance is just accepting that what is happening to you is meant to happen to you - and that you’re going to be okay."

In late 2023, Madonna opened up about her terrifying ordeal that almost saw her lose her life.

"I want to say it was a crazy year for me as well. And I didn’t think I was gonna make it. Neither did my doctors. That’s why I woke up with all of my children sitting around me," the 'Vogue' hitmaker told the crowd during a gig.

"I forgot five days of my life… or my death, I don’t really know where I was.

"But the angels were protecting me and my children were there. And my children always save me, every time."
