Madonna has been forced to postpone her tour after being put in intensive care.

A statement from her talent manager, Guy Oseary, said: "On Saturday June 24, Madonna developed a serious bacterial infection which lead to a several day stay in the ICU.

"Her health is improving, however she is still under medical care. A full recovery is expected.

"At this time we will need to pause all commitments, which includes the tour. We will share more details with you soon as we have them, including a new start date for the tour and for rescheduled shows."

The 64-year-old 'Material Girl' star was set to commence her 'Celebration' tour later next month (15 July), with plans to hop across the pond to London for four nights from 14 October.

Oseary uploaded the statement to Instagram this evening (28 June) and fans have since rushed to the comment section to share their reactions to the shocking news.

One fan penned: "Please send her my love and support. I’ll be sending prayers for her healing."

A second wrote: "We all love you, Madonna — thank you, Guy. We will hang tight and await good word."

"Health comes first," offered another. "Get well soon Queen"

A final Instagram user commented: "Heal fully and take your time. The universe loves you."

The global tour was originally scheduled to go on until the beginning of next year with the announcement stating it will 'be highlighting her unmatched catalog of music from the past 40-plus years'.

The tour will also set 'pay respect to the city of New York, where her [Madonna's] career in music began'.

US stops include Detroit, Chicago, New York, Miami and Los Angeles.

The tour was also set to make its way to Europe hitting 11 major cities including; London, Barcelona, Paris, and Stockholm.
