Joe Rogan has vowed not to drink alcohol despite confessing that he enjoys doing so, citing one reason for the surprise announcement.

At some point or other, we've all said that we're never drinking booze again, usually it's after a heavy night out when our heads our pounding and we've got the beer fear as we try to avoid reflecting on our antics the previous night.

But after a day or two you're happy to saddle-up and jump back on the horse, although we all know someone who has decided to go teetotal - and you've got to respect them for that.

Now, 57-year-old Rogan has decided to throw in the towel as he claimed while talking to 68-year-old comedian Ron White on his hit podcast, the Joe Rogan Experience, that he hasn't had a drink since March.

The UFC commentator's admission came as White explained that he stopped drinking four years ago, while in Costa Rica.

Speaking on the show, which aired last Wednesday (April 9), Rogan said: "I quit too."

White then asked: "When?"

"A month ago," Rogan explained. "Yeah I just stopped drinking."

Before continuing: "Yeah I think I'm done yeah, for no reason other than it's not good for you. No I didn't have to, I enjoyed it.

"But the the days after drinking were just too rough and I'm like what what kind of a moron who takes so good care of his body is poisoning himself a couple of days a week for fun, you know? Why am I doing that?

"And then I'm like, 'well will I have the same amount of fun if I don't poison myself?', turns out yes."

So what will be happening to Rogan's body?

Well, a YouTube channel, known as The Infographics Show, has detailed what happens seconds after stopping drinking alcohol.

Immediately after, ‘your liver slowly filters out the toxins and sugars found in the alcohol,' the video explains. After an hour, 'your body has filtered your blood several times and metabolized the drinks you’ve had'.

As the video explains, though, 'the time it takes your body to break down the alcohol directly correlates to the amount consumed'.

A day of going dry sees your immune system return to normal, while three to five days in, even more benefits become noticeable.

This includes your blood pressure beginning to drop and feeling less stressed.

The video continues: “You might also notice your appetite begins to decrease about a week after you stop consuming alcohol.”

After a fortnight with no alcohol, you ‘may find your cognitive abilities start to improve’ and about three weeks to a month later, your ‘liver will begin to thank you’.

It could take up to two months since your last sip of alcohol for your liver to be working at 'full power' again.
