Gary Oldman has revealed just what Demi Moore said to him after he was accused of being 'unprofessional' on set.
The 67-year-old English actor and filmmaker recently revealed he was 'mortified' for his actions on the set of the 1995 movie The Scarlet Letter, which prompted him to apologize to his co-star Moore.
Speaking to Radio Times, the Remembrance star opened up about his glittering career and his affliction with alcohol, which he fittingly got to portray in the 2024 coming-of-age drama, Parthenope, after taking on the part of boozy author John Cheever.

Although sober for more than 25 years, Oldman admitted one instance where he was out of order, blaming his rocky relationship with booze as a factor in his 'unprofessional' behavior while he and Moore were filming.
In the romance movie, Oldman starred as Reverend Arthur Dimmesdale while Moore played Hester Prynne.
“I think the worst thing you can do is inspire disappointment,” he said. “I was in The Scarlet Letter with Demi Moore, and I had intermittent bouts of boozing during filming. It was towards the end of [my drinking] where I thought, ‘If I carry on like this…'"

The Oscar winner was 36 years old at the time and said he was in a 'very dark place'.
“I drank too much in the lunch hour. It was such a destructive thing. I got back on the set to do quite a big scene and I got through it,” Oldman added. “You wouldn’t really know but I was quite tipsy. And the next day, I said to her, ‘I’m so sorry, you must hate me.' I was mortified that I’d been so unprofessional."
Oldman then revealed what Moore said back to him, which has clearly stuck with him over the past three decades.
"She said to me, 'I don't hate you, it's okay. I'm just disappointed'," he said.

Before the movie hit theatres, Oldman checked into rehab in 1994, prompted by his destructive behaviors and a drink driving arrest three years prior.
Now, he's celebrated being sober for 28 years, claiming Alcoholics Anonymous helped him to overcome his addiction to the point where he has 'no desire to even take a sip' now.
Oldman also had plenty of praise for Moore for her role in the hit movie, The Substance, where she played fading Hollywood starlet, Elisabeth Sparkle, telling The Post at the 2025 Screen Actors Guild Awards in February that the actress is 'very special.'

“I’ve not really been that in touch with her, but I just actually reconnected with her because I’ve seen her recently. She is such a wonderful person, Demi,” he said.
“I couldn’t be happier for her in this moment with this film and this role. I think it’s such a wonderful thing. And she’s loving it and really riding the wave.”
The compliment comes as Demi landed her first-ever Golden Globe and narrowly missed the Oscar for 'Best Actress' for The Substance.
