Drew Barrymore locks her kids’ iPads in a safe to limit their screen time

The actor and talkshow host said she only lets the devices come out for special occasions.

Drew Barrymore has opened up about how she tries to limit her kids' screen time when it comes to using smart devices.

As technology becomes more pervasive in every aspect of society, parents have to had to work out a healthy balance for their children.

The Charlie's Angels star explained to Better Homes and Gardens that it was impossible to manage that during the Covid-19 pandemic.

"When schools were virtual we were forced into all being on our separate devices and I didn't like it," she told the outlet.

She added: "We watch a ton of movies and shows so I'm not judging anyone about screens. But when it comes to my kids, I'm not a huge fan of personal electronics, like iPads."

So, she decided to draw a line in the sand.

Barrymore said: "Now, I keep the iPads in a locked safe and they only come out for special occasions. I'd rather that the three of us all pile into my bed and watch together."

But she's not the only celebrity who is ensuring their kids spend enough time soaking up the world rather than being fixated on a screen.

Jennifer Garner revealed how she has banned her children from using social media.

The actor spoke with Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb about her children, who she shares with ex-husband Ben Affleck, during an appearance on TODAY to promote her upcoming Apple TV+ series The Last Thing He Told Me - in which she plays the stepmother of a teenager.

Violet is the eldest of Affleck and Garner's children at 17-years-old, followed by Seraphina at 13 and son Samuel, who is 11.

On the topic of social media, Garner explained that she presented her children with a challenge to determine whether they should be allowed to use it or not.

"I just said to my kids, ‘Show me the articles that prove that social media is good for teenagers, and then we’ll have the conversation,'" she said. "Find scientific evidence that matches what I have that says that it’s not good for teenagers, then we’ll chat."

Pink similarly has told her eldest daughter that she can have a phone only when Willow can prove social media is good for you.

She told the Carolina With Greg T In The Morning Show: "My kids don’t have a phone, and my daughter is the only 11-year-old in her class that doesn’t have one."
