Sister Wives’ Christine Brown has detailed the ‘awkward’ first sex encounter she had with her ex-husband Kody Brown in her explosive new memoir.
Reality TV fans may already be familiar with Christine, a 53-year-old mother-of-six who was spiritually married to Kody, 56, between March 1994 and November 2021.
The pair, alongside Kody’s current wife Robyn, 46, and his ex spouses Meri, 54, Janelle, 56, feature on the hit show Sister Wives, which is entering its 20th season this fall.
Christine was the third wife to join the once polygamous family. After almost three decades of marriage, she opted to divorce her husband, citing his relationship with their children, as per an interview on the Reality Life with Kate Casey podcast.

Since exiting the marriage, Christine has tied the knot with David Woolley, and has recently found the courage to come clean about her time with the Brown family patriarch in her new book, Sister Wife: A Memoir of Faith, Family, and Finding Freedom.
The bombshell autobiography was released on Tuesday (September 2). It offers a glimpse into the TV favorite’s Mormon upbringing as well as an ‘insider’ look at how her 28-year relationship with Kody really deteriorated.
It also features an account of her and Kody’s first time having sex—a memory she claimed was ‘so painful’ to revisit.
Christine explained in Sister Wife: A Memoir that she thought sex with Kody would be ‘magic’.

She claimed that she believed she would be ‘safe’ because he was an ‘experienced’ man, giving her was already married to both Meri and Janelle.
"I wasn't completely clueless, and I trusted him,” she wrote, as per as excerpt shared by PEOPLE.
Unfortunately, their first time - which took place in a castle-shaped motel near Ogden, Utah - ended up hurting the woman ‘like crazy’, causing her to ‘cry’ as a result of the pain.

This was because their ‘awkward’ encounter wasn’t exciting, and that they had exchanged no ‘silly banter’ ahead of their wedding night, the book stated.
"'I'm so sorry,' he said, as I recall," she wrote. "But it hurt because there was no foreplay. There was no anything. It was my first time after having my very first kiss at the altar, and he was experienced so he should have known.
"'I've been looking forward to this for so long,' I said, crying from the pain," she continued. "I envisioned handholding, moonlight, gentle touches. I imagined feeling beautiful and adored. I imagined a loving acknowledgment of our eternal life together."
Christine alleged that she was ‘too sore’ for them to try to have sex again on their honeymoon.

"I didn't know anything else, and it was romantic enough for me," she wrote. "I figured things would get better."
Despite her belief, Christine wrote that Kody ‘remained distant’ and that it took two years of marriage for her to ‘accidentally’ have her first orgasm.

Of the experience, Christine remembered thinking: "Oh, that's what everyone's been so excited about…”.
“We even got into a rhythm with sex, and there were a few years where it was kind of good," she added.
Christine also wrote how Kody had asked her to wear ‘polygamy PJs’ that went to the ankles and wrists during sex or lingerie, but that it ‘never felt like it was for sexy reasons’, as per the memoir.
According to Christine, Kody was much ‘closer’ with Meri and Janelle and that she was ‘shocked’ to hear how the threesome shared a relationship ‘where they talked and played and enjoyed each other physically’.

“I knew how close he could be with Meri and Janelle,” she expressed. “The walls were thin. It’s one thing to know your roommate is having sex in the next bedroom over. It’s another when it’s your husband and you can hear everything.”
Christine added that she and the other Sister Wives stars were ‘careful’ not to demonstrate affection in front of one another, but that it was a different story come nightfall.
Sister Wives season 20 premiered on Sunday, Sept. 28, at 10 p.m. ET/PT on TLC. Sister Wife: A Memoir of Faith, Family, and Finding Freedom is available to purchase now.
