Britney Spears claims she got pregnant while dating Justin Timberlake and had an abortion

Britney Spears' memoir has revealed she got secretly pregnant while she was dating Justin Timberlake.

The pop star's long-awaited insight into her life and career, which is titled The Woman in Me, is set to drop this month.

PEOPLE obtained an excerpt and it opens up on a delicate moment for the singer.

She explained for the very first time that she was expecting a baby with her then-boyfriend when they were only about 19 years old.

They allegedly found out they were going to be parents in 2000.

In her book, she wrote: "It was a surprise, but for me, it wasn’t a tragedy. I loved Justin so much. I always expected us to have a family together one day.

"This would just be much earlier than I’d anticipated.

"But Justin definitely wasn’t happy about the pregnancy. He said we weren’t ready to have a baby in our lives, that we were way too young."

UNILAD has reached out to Timberlake's representatives for comment.

After having intense discussions, Britney opted for an abortion.

"If it had been left up to me alone, I never would have done it. And yet Justin was so sure that he didn’t want to be a father," she said.

Britney explained that it was one of the 'most agonizing things I have ever experienced in my life'.

Still to this day she finds it harrowing.

TMZ reports Britney was 'conflicted' about the abortion due to her religious upbringing and her family's views on the issue.

Some fans have taken to social media to suggest Britney alluded to the abortion in the music video for 'Everytime'.

The 2003 song shows the pop star being hounded by paparazzi as well as having fights with a male counterpart.

Towards the end of the video, she's seen walking through a hospital while a baby girl is born.

While some critics thought this alluded to the idea of her being reincarnated, some of her diehard supporters believe this was her way of mentioning the 'agonizing' baby she didn't get to have.

Britney and Justin dated from 1998 to 2002 and were one of Hollywood's biggest celebrity couples at the time.

Spears eventually had her first child, Sean Preston, in 2005 after marrying Kevin Federline.

She had her second baby, Jayden James, the following year.

The Woman in Me is set to come out on October 24 and has been praised by the publishers for lifting a lid on the pop star's life.

It promises to reveal 'for the first time her incredible journey (and) strength at the core of one of the greatest performers in pop music history'.
