Fans have reacted with delight to Amanda Bynes' announcement that she is working on a brand new project after a difficult 15 years for the former child star.
It has been more than a decade since young comedy superstar Amanda Bynes was forced to withdraw from public life, her acting career, and Hollywood in general as a result of poor mental health.
Talented Bynes had scored a number of acting roles before she was even a teenager, performing on stage, screen, and even receiving help from legendary comedians Richard Pryor and Arsenio Hall during a workshop at the iconic Los Angeles Laugh Factory.

After getting her big TV breakthrough on Nickelodeon's All That sketch show, she was given her own program in 1999 when she was just 13, The Amanda Show, which made her famous around the country.

But a decade later, mental health and substance use issues forced the star to abandon her blossoming movie career, which had seen her star in big films like Easy A, Hairspray, and She’s the Man.
A series of incidents including a DUI and legal issues over drug use saw Bynes placed in a conservatorship by 2013, overseen by her mother, which would remain in place for the next 10 years.

However, after keeping clean for a number of years and seeing an improvement in her independence and capability, Bynes and her parents agreed to end the conservatorship in 2023, after which Bynes was increasingly spotted in public with an entirely new look.
She has presented her personal artwork at a public gallery, made a short-lived stint as a podcast host, and last year even became an OnlyFans model - though she has pledged to use it as a space to speak to fans and keep it safe for work.
But now, the 39-year-old is taking another sidestep in her career and working on a new song, which Bynes said would be called 'Girlfriend'.
The former child star shared the news with her TikTok followers as she headed into the studio to record the song, which she wrote the lyrics for. Though, she admitted the melody for the track had not been worked out yet.
It follows a few songs and remixes dropped by Bynes in recent years as she works on a career in beauty and cosmetology.

In her new styling, Bynes' music largely features her rapping rather than singing, with her 2021 feature on the track 'Diamonds' stating: "Diamonds, diamonds, diamonds on my neck on my wrist/ Diamonds, diamonds, diamonds on my fish all wet."
Despite the lack of any tune for this new track 'Girlfriend', most of Bynes' fans were excited to hear that she was working on a new artistic project, with one commenting: "Amanda I'm so excited for you girl! and I jus know it's going to be amazing."
Another echoed this and demanded more content from the elusive star, saying: "We can’t wait to hear it! I love these updates! I’d love long form vlogs too, I would literally watch you talk about anything queen. I hope 2026 is kind to you."
