The reason singer Akon was arrested in Georgia last week has been detailed after police released more details.

The 'Smack That' hitmaker was reportedly taken into custody on November 7 by the Chamblee Police Department on a warrant issued out of Roswell.

Akon - real name Aliaune Thiam - is said to have been booked around midday and spent six hours in the county jail, reportedly being released at 6.30pm that evening after being processed.

Jail records have revealed the singer, whose real name is Aliaune Badara Akon Thiam, was detained as part of an out-of-county warrant.

According to a Chamblee Police warrant seen by UNILAD, officers were responding to a 'flock-warrant person alert for a white Tesla truck' as the 'registered owner was listed as wanted by the Roswell Police Department'.

To put it simply, there was no valid insurance on Akon's Tesla vehicle, while officials also found an illegal vape in his possession.

An incident report detailed that Akon had been wanted after police discovered he was driving with a suspended license some two months ago.

The Roswell Police Department found the singer stranded on the side of the road in September because of a dead battery in his Tesla Cybertruck. His car was towed before police officers discovered he had a suspended license for failure to appear in January 2023.

Following his arrest, a representative for Akon told the Independent: "Due to a clerical issue the suspended license should have never been escalated, it was paid but not properly entered into the system. This will be soon rectified in the courts in early December."

DeKalb County Sheriff's Office confirmed the arrest to TMZ, which also reported the 'Locked Up' rapper had his mug shot taken wearing a black hoodie and appearing 'mostly expressionless'.

The 52-year-old is said to have 'remained calm' and stated 'he was aware of the warrant' before being handcuffed.

Akon's arrest comes in the middle of the singer's tour of India, having performed in Delhi on November 9. The R&B star is due to take to the stage in Bangaluru on Friday (November 14), followed by Mumbai on November 16.

Following his current tour of India, Akon is set to return to the US on January 3 next year.

Away from music, the singer launched his own charity, Konfidence Foundation, for underprivileged children in Africa.

UNILAD has previously contacted Akon's reps, DeKalb County Sheriff's Office and Roswell Police Department for comment following the arrest.
