Good Will Hunting actor Minnie Driver says she is 'grateful to be alive' after terrible car crash

Minnie Driver says she had to 'crawl' away from a bad car accident in France that 'keeps replaying' in her head.

The actress took to Instagram earlier today (August 6), where she was seen wearing a neck brace while lying in bed.

"Hi guys, Paris update is that I’m actually back in London," the 56-year-old said. "I got into a really bad car accident a few days ago with my friend Ben and we somehow walked out of it.

"Well, we didn’t walk out of it. We crawled out of it. But we did get out of it alive."

Apparently Driver and her friend had been on a country road in France when another car failed to stop at an intersection and 'was going at speed and we just T-boned it'.

While she insisted that she's 'fine', Driver – who once dated Matt Damon – said she suffered a sprained neck as a result of the accident.

According to SpineCare New York, signs of a neck sprain include things like:

• Pain in the back of the neck
• Pain that worsens with movement
• Pain that gets worse a day or so after the injury
• Muscle spasms
• Pain in the upper shoulder
• Headaches

Signs that the injury may be more severe are long term pain, pain that does not improve with over-the-counter (OTC) pain relief, pain that shoots down the arms or legs, and pain that accompanies headaches and tingling or weakness.

Understandably it's had quite a mental impact on the Good Will Hunting star.

"I'm really in shock and sort of cry all the time, but I’m gonna heal," she continued. "The reason that I’m not dead, honestly, is the car we were driving."

She proceeded to gush about the KIA car she'd been in with her friend at the time of the collision.

In the caption of the post, Driver thanked a van driver who drove by shortly after the accident and stopped to help them before the ambulance arrived. Not everybody did this, however, and she called out a 'special driver' who 'slowed down took in the scene and drove off without stopping'.

Driver went on to write: "My brain keeps replaying the crash which is very hard but seems to be a necessary part of processing. Weeping too, feels good and helpful.

"Thank you to my friends, my family, all the people at work and especially my friend Ben and his family. I love you."

Driver's friends and followers have rushed to send their love to the Return to Me star since she shared her news.

One person wrote: "Thanking every Kia I see from now on for keeping you and your mate alive!! Swift recovery, my dear Min….love you!!"

A second said: "Oh no!!!!! I’m so so sorry! Sending all healing vibes to you and wishing you a safe and speedy recovery!!"

"How frightening, Minnie! Thank goodness all of you walked away," wrote a third.
