Ted Lasso star Jason Sudeikis has spoken out after Olivia Wilde was served with custody documents while on stage at CinemaCon in Las Vegas.

Fans were initially left intrigued as Wilde had her presentation for the film Don’t Worry Darling interrupted by an unidentified person who approached the stage and slid a manila envelope marked 'personal and confidential' towards her on stage.

Wilde questioned whether the delivery was for her and opened the envelope on stage, but quickly went back to addressing the to exhibitors, studio executives and media in the audience before attendees turned their attention to the trailer for Don't Worry Darling, which Wilde directed.

Organisers at CinemaCon initially told Deadline they did not know who the person making the delivery was, but it later emerged the envelope contained legal documents from Sudeikis, Wilde's ex-fiancé and father of her two children.

The pair have been separated since late 2020, and while Sudeikis knew the papers against Wilde had been drawn up, he is said to have not known when they would be delivered.

In a statement provided to Deadline, a spokesperson for Sudeikis said he had 'had no prior knowledge of the time or place that the envelope would have been delivered as this would solely be up to the process service company involved'.

The spokesperson went on to claim the actor would 'never condone her being served in such an inappropriate manner'.

CinemaCon organisers said they were unaware how the person serving the documents got into the building. The event, held at the Colosseum in Caesar's Palace in Vegas, requires non-industry attendees to purchase a badge and is staffed with security who typically check bags.

Mitch Neuhauser, Managing Director of CinemaCon, commented: "We have never in the history of the convention had an incident where a delegate has approached the stage who was not authorized to be there. In light of this incident, we are reevaluating our security procedures to ensure the safety of all our attendees."

In a statement to Variety, Neuhauser added that CinemaCon organisers would 'act accordingly because it’s the right thing to do', adding: "We want to do the safe, proper thing.”

Eyewitnesses at CinemaCon also told the publication the person who served the documents to Wilde was credentialed by CinemaCon.

Though Wilde and Sudeikis share two children, they were never married. The pair met at a wrap party for the 36th season of Saturday Night Live in 2011. UNILAD has reached out to representatives for Wilde and Sudeikis for further comment.
