The 1975's Matty Healy criticised for response to fan's name at album signing event

"That sounds like something you move gravel with"

The 1975's Matty Healy has been slammed for his brutal response to a fan's name, with one going as far as to calling him an 'ignorant pr***'.

It all started at a recent meet-and-greet event for the rather ironically named album 'Being Funny in a Foreign Language'.

Clearly Irish is not on the list of languages, because when the 33-year-old frontman was asked to sign a record by a woman named Dervla, his reaction was anything but funny. Take a look:

As you can see in the footage, Healy asks, "What's your name," to which the woman replies, "Dervla."

The singer pulls a face, saying, "What? Dervla, that sounds like something you move gravel with."

To be fair, the fan saw the funny side, sharing a short clip of the reaction on Twitter with the caption, "His response to my name is f***ing sending me," and a couple of laughing emojis.

But a lengthier version of the meet has since gone viral online, with many people criticising the band member for his behaviour.

"Ignorant pr***," wrote one. "Imagine if this was a name from another language other than Irish. Would he have the same reaction?"

Another quipped, "I’d rather listen to someone moving gravel than The 1975 to be fair." Nicely done.

"Never heard of him... what's up with this attitude," added a third.

People were not impressed by his reaction.

Others were angrier at the woman's reaction, including this person who said: "The 'I know' actually annoyed me more than anything.

"Brits don't deserve the beautiful names of our native language. Not for one second."

Another said: "Look at this Irish person saying 'I know' about her name as a Brit insults her ancient Irish name.

"We need to stop being ashamed of our culture and stop allowing Brits to believe they're superior."

And then there were those who were on hand to throw the shade right back at the singer.

"As a 33 year old man named 'Matty' I'm not sure he should be calling out anyone's name," said one.

Another joked, "Coming from a man whose name sounds like something you repeatedly wipe the soles of your feet with entering a house."

We're going to guess Mr Healy wasn't expecting to be force fed a taste of his own medicine when he decided to roast Dervla at the album signing event.
