Apple is reportedly delaying the release of its second-generation iPhone Air, the company's thinnest model to date.

The 5.6 mm thick phone went on sale in September, alongside the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max.

You might think something so thin - around three stacked US quarters - would be incredibly delicate, but the device is apparently Apple's most durable iPhone yet, built with aerospace-grade aluminium and reinforced glass.

Its battery life hasn't taken a hit either, with the iPhone Air boasting an 'all day' power with up to 40 hours of video playback - outperforming some of Apple’s chunkier models.

The iPhone Air only features a single lens rear camera however, bucking the trend of most iPhone models having three.

"Our intention was to make an iPhone that feels like a piece of the future, powerful, yet so thin and light it seems to disappear in your hands," the company said.

The phone retails from $999, only $100 cheaper than the iPhone 17 Pro, which has an even better battery life and a triple lens rear camera.

Meanwhile, users have pointed out the Air's USB-C port appears to be misaligned, while Samsung jibed that the new creation still can't fold.

Samsung released the first folding phone, aptly named the Galaxy Fold, in September 2019.

Anyway, it appears iPhone users haven't quite been convinced, as Apple apparently looks to push back the release of its second gen iPhone Air.

The new iteration was due to release in fall 2026, but underwhelming sales figures has reportedly seen it pushed back.

The updated model would be even lighter, have a larger battery capacity and a laser-welded vapour chamber which 'efficiently move heat away from the A19 Pro chip, allowing for even higher sustained performance', Apple said.

If you were waiting for baited breath for the new release, then unfortunately you'll be in suspense for even longer as the new model may not be released until spring 2027, reports The Information.

In fact, the publication adds that Apple has already 'sharply scaled back production' of the iPhone Air's debut model. Yikes.

Apple's fall 2026 line-up will now reportedly include the iPhone 18 Pro and, seemingly in a bid to rival Samsung, a rumored first foldable iPhone.

Its spring 2027 offerings are apparently set to include the iPhone 18 and iPhone 18E - as well as, possibly, the second generation iPhone Air.

If it's not been canned by then, that is...

UNILAD has contacted Apple for comment.
