Zara has issued an apology after people said they were disgusted at the 'suggestive' design of a shirt for children.

If you buy clothes for your kids you might not think twice about what it says on it or the meaning behind it, but after one video you just might.

The shirt was highlighted in a TikTok video by user chaos.to.sanity, real name Laura Wilson, and has got parents in an uproar.

Speaking to the New York post, Wilson said when she discovered the shirt in a Zara store in the UK, it made her ‘feel physically sick’ and was ‘completely unnecessary and inappropriate.’

“I am not one to be overly sensitive about clothing but I was in Zara the other day and this was in the girls section,” Wilson said in her video.

“Just wait until you see the back,”

On the front of the shirt you can see the words, ‘The Strawberry: A small burst of sweet joy’ as well as the phrase 'the perfect snack' on one side of the shirt.

She continued: “If you have bought this for your child, you need serious words with yourself, in my opinion. I am so shocked.”

Wilson then turned over the other side and showed that it showed an image of a strawberry cut in half and the words underneath that read, ‘Take A Bite’.

Written in quotation marks the shirt continued: “A burst of sweet delight. Making for the perfect summer snack,”

Wilson continued to criticize the shirt: “Is it just me or is this just not okay? I would never have my girls in this T-shirt.

“Is it just me or is this just plain wrong in plain sight?"

Wilson even captioned the TikTok: “If you think this is wrong - please let me know so i don’t feel crazy… is this wrong? Or not? Personally, I’m disgusted - who is buying this t-shirt for their child?!!”

Wilson said people who bought the shirt for their daughters should rethink. (chaos.to.sanity/TikTok)

It seems it wasn’t just Wilson as people on social media said they were equally stunned about the implications of the shirt.

A Zara spokesperson told UNILAD they have since issued an apology and removed the shirt from their stores.

The statement read: "There was no intention for the use of the word ‘snack’ on this T shirt to imply anything other than the traditional meaning of the word, as evidenced by the image of a strawberry on the garment.

"However, we now understand that some individuals have interpreted the term differently. Therefore, we have removed the t-shirt from stores and our website, and we apologise for any misunderstanding or offence caused.”
