The White House has been warned that one of its key military alliances could collapse and bring about the 'end of the world' if President Trump continues with his threats to annex Greenland.
The apocalyptic warning came as America's European allies began deploying troops in small numbers on the territory, which is the largest island in the world and a recognized part of the Kingdom of Denmark.
The UK, France, Germany, Sweden, Norway, Finland, and the Netherlands have all sent small military detachments to the mineral rich landmass as part of a 'reconnaissance' mission, following Trump's repeated threats to take over the territory.
Vice President JD Vance had an opportunity to defuse tensions on Wednesday (January 14) when he met ministers from Denmark and Greenland, who told him it was 'absolutely unnecessary' for the US to annex the territory.

Later, Trump said 'there's not a thing' they could do to stop him.

The president has repeatedly stated his intent to take over the ice-capped landmass since first floating the idea during his first term, with Trump justifying the potential military adventurism as being in the name of 'national security'.
Separately, Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt has stated that the presence of European militaries on the island would not change Trump's mind on the plan. "Nor does it impact his goal of the acquisition of Greenland at all," she said.

But these increasingly bellicose words have gone down like a cup of cold sick among EU allies.
Former President of the European Council and current Prime Minister of Poland Donald Tusk blasted the attempt to disregard the borders of other members of the grand alliance.
Tusk warned at a press conference: “An attempt to take over (part of) a NATO member state by another NATO member state would be a political disaster.
“It would be the end of the world as we know it, which guaranteed a world based on NATO solidarity, which held back the evil forces associated with communist terror or other forms of aggression.”

But Trump has a newfound confidence in asserting US dominance since the successful abduction of President Nicolas Maduro, January 3.
He justified his plan to reporters, saying "The problem is there's not a thing that Denmark can do about it if Russia or China wants to occupy Greenland, but there's everything we can do. You found that out last week with Venezuela."
With this world-ending warning, it does not seem as though Europe is taking the threat lying down. Greenland confirmed on Thursday that a number of allies would be participating in 'training' drills on the island for the foreseeable future.

Deputy prime minister of Greenland Mute Egede confirmed: “Soldiers of NATO are expected to be more present in Greenland from today and in the coming days. It is expected that there will be more military flights and ships.”
Meanwhile Denmark has confirmed this week that it will begin building a more permanent military presence on the island, in the hopes of deterring Russia, China, and even NATO ally America.
