A kayaker has revealed exactly what was going through his mind after being 'swallowed by a whale'.

Local reports found a young man was kayaking the waters in Bahía El Águila, south of Punta Arenas in Chile, when a whale apparently accidentally swallowed him and his kayak.

You'd think that would be it after reading that, but Adrian Simancas miraculously survived the terrible ordeal, and his father even managed to record the terrible ordeal while keeping calm.

The incredible footage shows Adrian gently kayaking on the water when the menacing whale popped its head out of the water and the man suddenly disappeared beneath the waves.

But just seconds later, Adrian appeared to much surprise, alongside his yellow kayak - which he was gripping onto.

Speaking to the Associated Press, Adrain detailed what was going through his mind as he was being engulfed.

“I thought it had already eaten me and swallowed me,” he said.

"Yes, at first I thought I had died. It was like, of course, a lot of terror because I thought no, no, there was nothing I can do."

Adrian added: "When I came up and started floating, I was scared that something might happen to my father too, that we wouldn’t reach the shore in time, or that I would get hypothermia."

Alongside his father, Dell Simancas, Adrian was sailing in the bay of the Magallanes region when the apparent humpback swallowed Adrian before spitting him straight back out.

Dell played a critical role in helping his son, calmly using a rope to tow him to the shore and ultimate safety.

"I didn't see Adrian for three seconds and I got scared. When I turned around I didn't see anything, I didn't see Adrian," Dell said.

"That was the only real scary moment I had, because I didn't see him for like three seconds. And suddenly he just shot out."

In the viral video, Dee could be heard shouting instructions to Adrian, telling him to 'calm down' and 'grab the boat' while the whale made another appearance before heading back to beneath the service.

"Calm down, calm down, I'm coming," he said to his son as he paddled towards him so the rope could be handed over.

Adrian then said to his father: "I thought [it] had swallowed me."

A truly remarkable story that somehow had a happy ending.
