At least 11 people have died in the US in recent days amid a deadly winter storm that's also left over one million Americans without power.
New York is one of the areas greatly impacted by the bitter cold, with Mayor Zohran Mamdani stating on X that at least five people have died. Their cause of death was yet to be determined, the mayor added.
"It is a reminder that every year New Yorkers succumb to the cold," Mamdani said in a statement.
Meanwhile, New York State Governor Kathy Hochul warned New Yorkers to stay indoors amid freezing temperatures.
