Three people have been shot at a US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention facility in Dallas, Texas.

It has been reported that the gunman, who has not yet been named, is dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

It has also been reported that one victim has died at the scene, says NBC News. No ICE agents have been shot or injured.

Police responded to the scene around 6:40am local time.

Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem has spoken out on the ordeal and said that a motive for the attack is yet to be determined.

She tweeted: "There was a shooting this morning at the Dallas @ICEgov Field Office. Details are still emerging but we can confirm there were multiple injuries and fatalities.

"The shooter is deceased by a self-inflicted gun shot wound.

"While we don’t know motive yet, we know that our ICE law enforcement is facing unprecedented violence against them. It must stop."

Noem added: "Please pray for the victims and their families."

JD Vance has also reacted to the news and said that the 'obsessive attack on law enforcement', ICE in particular, 'must stop'.

"I'm praying for everyone hurt in this attack and for their families," the vice president went on.

Other notable figures to have spoken out include Republican Senators for Texas John Cornyn and Ted Cruz.

Cornyn described the shooting as 'horrific', while Cruz said he was praying for a 'swift recovery' of those who have been injured.

Acting ICE director Todd Lyons has said that the shooter was a 'possible sniper' as the they allegedly shot from an elevated position and from 'an adjacent building', as per the Dallas Police Department.

The facility the incident took place is used to process detainees before they're transferred to a detention center, says CNN. Typically it holds a couple of dozen people at a time, a former senior ICE official told the news outlet.

People who were being detained at the facility at the time of the shooting are reportedly among the victims.

According to Texas Republican Representative Wesley Hunt, the victims were shot as detainees were being 'unloaded', BBC News reported.
