A pilot has answered burning questions from people on social media, revealing some of the 'weirdest' and 'disturbing' things he's seen on the job.

When it comes to traveling by plane, most people hope that everything goes as planned and the journey runs smoothly.

Well, it seems that isn’t always the case, as an American Airlines pilot revealed that he's seen some odd things while flying planes.

Captain Steve hosted a Q&A session on social media and got to answering the many questions people have about the profession.

Addressing his TikTok followers on his page @captainsteeeve, the captain was asked: "Have you ever seen anything weird or unexplained while flying?"

Steve was able to sus that the person with the question was likely hoping for an answer tied to aliens, but did admit he had seen a UFO (unidentified flying object) but not in the 'traditional sense'.

He explained: "Well, yeah kind of. Sometimes weather formations are a little weird.

"You know I think you're getting after the 'Have you ever seen a UFO?' Not in the traditional sense of a UFO, every once in a while you'll be flying and something will go right by you fast and usually it's like a balloon, like there was a kid's parade and there's a helium balloon that goes by."

The pilot did go on to note that he had made a troubling observation before, and it is easy to understand why.

He continued: "I've seen drones go by before. That's disturbing."

If you want a safe and problem-free flight, being struck by a drone probably isn’t a good thing.

Steve also explained that he has often seen 'weird' lights while flying an aircraft that he surmises is due to satellites.

The pilot added: "Also when you fly through the Canadian maritimes, there's a lot of those satellites and sometimes the sun hits them just right and they all kind of light up. And that looks weird.

"All those satellites up and sometimes they come and go, depending on how the sun's hitting them. And again, it might be black at night where you are but the sun is hitting them from all over here and can't see the sun now.

"And it causes them to light up and not light up. So sometimes it can look they're moving around but they're not. They're actually stationary and yeah that's kind of a little weird."
