Woman's chilling internet searches she made when trying to cover up husband's murder as she pleads guilty

Kathryn Restelli has pleaded guilty to the murder of her estranged husband

A woman from Utah had some rather disturbing internet searches while she tried to cover up the murder of her husband.

Utah woman Kathryn Restelli has pleaded guilty to conspiring to murder her husband and the details make this a rather chilling story.

Kathryn reportedly had the help of her family, in her mother and brother and ultimately wanted to make the death look like it was self-defense.

She entered a guilty plea to second-degree murder, as well as conspiracy to commit murder and first-degree felony discharge of a firearm in relation to the July 2024 death of her estranged husband, Matthew Restelli.

Ahead of the shooting of Matthew, 37-year-old Kathryn split from her husband and left California, taking her children to her mother’s home in American Fork, Utah.

Prosecutors have alleged it is here that Kathryn and her mother, Tracy Grist, conspired to kill Matthew.

Prosecutors stated, that while separated, Kathryn created a ‘ruse of possible reconciliation’ with her husband to lure him to the home.

The mother had also allegedly told her daughter that she owned a firearm and told her that either she or her brother, Kevin Ellis, would shoot her husband.

Prosecutors said when Matthew arrived, Kathryn invited him into the home and told him to come through and help her gather her things. However, this was allegedly part of the plan for the family to be able to say that he walked into the property unannounced.

Prosectors then said she went upstairs, while her mother and brother allegedly waited for the husband to come inside and when he did, Ellis fired several shots at him. They then planted a knife on him to help add to their story of self-defense.

American Fork police Officer Joseph Nordin testified that this story fell apart because of the knife.

He said: “Matthew Restelli is left-handed, and he's holding [the knife] in his right hand. Along with that, during the autopsy, a bullet wound was found in his right wrist … the same hand he's holding the knife with."

Kathryn’s internet searches of homicide cases ahead of his death didn’t help.

As well as researching these cases, she also searched ‘what attracts mountain lions to humans’.

Her mother also reportedly searched online about recent shootings and the State’s gun laws.

Kathryn is set to be sentenced on September 9, while her mother and brother are each charged with first-degree murder, criminal conspiracy, obstruction of justice, and two counts of domestic violence in the presence of a child.

Ellis is also charged with the use of a firearm as a restricted person and possession or use of a controlled substance. The pair are scheduled to go on trial in January.
