Co-host of The View Joy Behar has given an explanation as to why her name has appeared in the Epstein Files.

Millions of documents have been released from the estate of the late convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein, with a large number of high profile people being named in them.

Some names appear several times, such as that of Donald Trump, who has denied any wrongdoing in connection with his association with Epstein.

However, just because someone's name appears in the files, it doesn't necessarily imply wrongdoing.

Behar has since explained that there are a lot of reasons why someone's name might pop up in the files, even suggesting that the sheer quantity of people named could be a way to 'muddy the waters' when it comes to establishing the nature of people's connection to Epstein.

In the episode of The View, which went out on February 19, she said: “That list has a lot of crazy names on it. It’s almost a way to muddy the waters."

She added: “So you say Whoopi [Goldberg’s] con the list and so am I, I think. We’re on the list because we were at a party or a wedding or something that somebody [else] might’ve been [at]. That’s what I found out.”

Behar went on to explain why she had appeared in the documents, saying that she had attended the wedding of Donald Trump and Marla Maples, who married in 1993 before separating in 1997 and divorcing in 1999.

“I was at [Donald] Trump‘s wedding to Marla [Maples]," said Behar. "Maybe Epstein was there too? Who knows!

“That means that I’m not guilty, obviously, but these other ones, how are you going to decide who’s guilty and who’s not? It’s very tricky.”

Behar explained that appearing on the list in itself doesn't mean someone is guilty, saying: “There are plenty of people named in the list that may have not done anything wrong.

“But I think there are a lot of people on that list that are guilty of wrongdoing.”

Whoopi Goldberg has also previously offered an explanation for why her name also appeared in the files during a previous episode.

Speaking on February 17, she addressed an email where she is mentioned, saying: “What does it say? ‘Whoopi needs a plane to get to Monaco. John Lennon’s charity is paying for it'.

"It should say Julian’s charity. ‘They don’t want to charter, so they are looking for private owners. Here’s the info', and they give all the information."

She added: “I wasn’t his girlfriend. I wasn’t his friend. I’m speaking about me because I’m getting dragged.

"People actually believe that I was with him. Honey, come on. Every man I’ve been with, you’ve known about him because either the Enquirer wrote about it.

"People wrote about this stuff."
