David Letterman reveals what Jimmy Kimmel messaged him after he was taken off air over Charlie Kirk comments

Letterman called the situation 'ridiculous' as he gave an update on Kimmel

David Letterman has revealed that he's spoken to Jimmy Kimmel following the suspension of his TV show.

The latest episode of Jimmy Kimmel’s show, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, saw him land in hot water as he discussed the assassination of Charlie Kirk, as well as mocking Donald Trump’s reaction following the 31-year-old's death on Wednesday (September 10).

The comedian's suspension has sparked a mixture of reactions, with President Trump expressing delight at the situation as he wrote on Truth Social: "Great News for America: The ratings-challenged Jimmy Kimmel Show is CANCELLED."

He then 'congratulated' ABC for 'finally having the courage to do what had to be done', before adding that Kimmel had 'zero talent'.

However, many others came to the 57-year-old's defence, with fellow TV talk show hosts, Stephen Colbert and Jon Stewart, speaking against Kimmel's suspension.

While Kimmel hasn't publicly addressed the situation, David Letterman has been able to give further insight into how he is doing.

The former TV talk show host confirmed that he had spoken to Kimmel following the news that his show had been suspended while speaking at the Atlantic Festival in New York City.

The 78-year-old said: “I have heard from Jimmy. [Kimmel] had been “nice enough to text … this morning.”

Letterman also commented on Kimmel’s well-being and said that ‘he’s sitting up in bed taking nourishment', adding: "He’s gonna be fine."

He then continued to say the whole situation was 'ridiculous', as he went on: “You can’t go around firing somebody because you’re fearful or trying to suck up to an authoritarian criminal administration in the Oval Office.

That’s just not how this works.”

In his post on social media, Trump also mentioned Jimmy Fallon, who hosts The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon on NBC.

The President wrote: "That leaves Jimmy and Seth, two total losers, on Fake News NBC. Their ratings are also horrible. Do it NBC!!!"

Fallon has since addressed Kimmel's suspension, saying he doesn't know what's going on, but that he knows the comedian, describing him as a 'decent, funny and loving guy' and added that he 'hopes he comes back'.

While Jimmy Kimmel Live! is currently suspended, Sinclair Broadcasting Group, which airs the show, has said that it could be lifted, but not until 'formal discussions are held with ABC regarding the network’s commitment to professionalism and accountability'.

Sinclair also called upon Kimmel to' issue a direct apology to the Kirk family' and also make a 'meaningful personal donation' to the Kirk Family and Turning Point USA.

UNILAD has previously contacted Kimmel's representatives and Jimmy Kimmel Live! for comment.
