The appointment of Joseph Hillier as iGaming Ontario’s new president and chief executive officer (CEO) was a significant one – and Casino.ca are already tracking what his leadership will mean for users of Ontario’s online casinos.

With a background in Ontario’s gaming market, following his previous role as chief strategy officer and corporate secretary at the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario, Hillier is perfectly placed to lead the drive for a new, more protected era in the sector.

“The board of directors looks forward to supporting Joseph as he leads iGaming Ontario to build on Ontario’s iGaming market success and deliver on key priorities,” a release confirming his appointment said.

“Joseph’s depth in the Ontario iGaming market, combined with successful public and private sector careers, makes him the ideal president and CEO at this critical point in iGaming Ontario’s growth.”

After being confirmed in the role on September 8, with the province eyeing improvements in regulatory efficiency, long-term market health and protection of their players, Hillier has wasted no time in seeking action.

His first steps have focused on zeroing in on three key priorities. Improving technology for data protection as well as reporting mechanisms, a centralised self-exclusion programme and enhanced protocols around anti-money laundering (AML).

These priorities are part of a wider goal and ambition from the company to ensure user safety, market integrity and experience across all their platforms.

Ontario’s gaming sector is growing rapidly and with their new president and CEO at the forefront of a new era, Hillier aims to continue that upward trajectory, while also reinforcing the guidelines and framework that make the system such a resounding success.
