The grief-stricken widow of Charlie Kirk has shared one of the first things to run through her mind after her husband was shot dead at a speaking event in an interview for The Megyn Kelly Show.

Erika Kirk, 37, who has previously described her sadness at not getting to kiss her husband goodbye before the 31-year-old conservative commentator was shot in the neck, has told the former Fox host that she was 'praying to God' for something in the moments after Charlie fell.

That day, September 10, Charlie had left early to go to the campus debate, while Erika headed to a hospital in Phoenix that was caring for her mother. But then, at 11.23am, a call came in from her husband's assistant to tell her the bad news, but Erika has said she could already tell something disastrous had happened.

In a preview of the show posted on X, Kelly pressed Turning Points USA's new CEO on the couple's hopes for a larger family, asking her: “You told me this in private — How many kids did you want to have?”

To which Kirk revealed that they 'wanted to have four,' before sharing that, the moment she heard her husband had been shot, she hoped for a surprise ray of light.

"And I was praying to God that I was pregnant when he got murdered," she told Kelly.

This was also something the independent podcaster had been considering after Kirk was shot, while police and federal agents hunted his alleged 22-year-old assassin Tyler Robinson.

Kelly said: “Oh, wow. I thought of that once... Whether it was meant to be or whether we’d get news like that.”

With less than two months since the fatal shooting, Kirk began to get emotional as she considered the loss of their hopes for a larger family.

"I know," she said, wiping tears from her eyes.

“I was like, 'oh, goodness, that was going to be the ultimate blessing out of this catastrophe'. So, now when I see young couples, I tell them, ‘Please, don’t put it off.’"

Kirk's widow added with urgency: "Especially if you’re a young woman. Don’t put it off, you can always have a career, you can always, you know, go back to work. You can never just go back to having children. And they grow so fast and so quickly, but I just, I was praying. Both of us were. We were just excited to just expand our family.”

Referencing her two young children, Kelly said: "Thank God you've got two."

"A boy and a girl," Kirk replied, as she thought about her one-year-old and three-year-old.

“One day, they’ll find out. Right now they’re just little loves. But one day they’ll find out that they’re Charlie Kirk’s children and they’ll know what that means,” she said, triggering applause from the crowd.

In another section of the emotive interview, Catholic Kelly asked if the tragedy in Orem, Utah, ever made her angry at God.

To which Erika said: "The enemy would love for me to be angry.”

Adding: "He would love it because it would distract me from building what Charlie entrusted to me.

“Raising our babies, Turning Point, being there for the team, being there for what the future holds."
