Donald Trump has broken his own record as his latest poll numbers continue to tank.

The US president is now more unpopular than ever as the midterms bear down on his second administration, with many predicting a bad day for the Republican Party.

While Trump started out with approval ratings of around 50 percent, as his presidency has continued Trump's approval ratings have fallen.

This includes both his general approval rating for how well people think he's doing in the job of president, but also how he is rating on issues which he has previously performed well on.

But just how bad could it be for Trump at this pivotal moment in his presidency?

Let's take a look at some of the numbers to get a sense of where Trump is at.

Trump is currently polling at 36 percent on an in the job poll, meaning how many people think he is doing a good job as president. This is down from 50 percent when he took office - a drop of around 14 percent.

But what is the main factor in this drop in the polls?

Well, it appears that a big part of it was Trump's introduction of tariffs, which he announced back in April.

Introducing sweeping tariffs has been a central economic policy in Trump's second term in the White House, but has already seen impacts on the cost of living. Trump's low score matches where he was at at a similar point during his first presidency, back in 2017.

But Trump has also seen drops in his approval ratings on big policy areas as well.

Crucially, these are on topics that he has made a central part of his second administration.

The first, as we have already mentioned, is with the economy where Trump's tariffs have seen him lose popularity, with a 36 percent approval rating on the economy according to Gallup. Immigration continues to be another central issue for Trump in his second presidency, and after a year in office has seen unsettling images from the storm of ICE raids, just 36 of those surveyed think that Trump is doing a good job on immigration.

Not only that, but active disapproval of Trump is also on the rise, with a Quinnipiac University survey finding that 54 percent of those surveyed think Trump overstepped in use of presidential power in his first year.

The rumblings of a rough midterm for Trump are already here, with the Democrats flipping 25 state Senate and House seats this year, as well as Zohran Mamdani's election as mayor of New York.

So if the opinion polls are anything to go by, the Democrats could make big gains in the midterms.
