Stephen King has taken to social media to suggest Donald Trump wouldn't have become president had the Epstein files been released years ago.

Jeffrey Epstein was arrested in 2019 on charges related to sex trafficking. He was found dead in his cell at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in Manhattan, New York City, that same year while he was awaiting trial.

Last week, emails were released by the Democrats on the House Oversight Committee as part of its investigation into convicted sex offenders Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell.

Trump was referenced repeatedly in conversations between Epstein and Maxwell, who is currently serving 20 years in jail for sex trafficking.

Trump has long maintained he was not aware of Epstein's crimes.

King, who has been a vocal critic of the US president in recent months, took to X to make a bold claim about the US public.

The author wrote: "The American public has grown numb to sexual crimes. If the Epstein business had come out against Trump in 1985, even 2005, Donny J would be gone like Enron."

And in a previous tweet, King penned: "Look, it's pretty simple: If the Epstein files don't incriminate Trump, why won't he release them?"

Well, in somewhat of a U-turn, Trump revealed over the weekend he wants the Epstein files to be released and encouraged all Republicans to vote in favor of it in Congress.

Taking to Truth Social, the POTUS wrote: "House Republicans should vote to release the Epstein files, because we have nothing to hide.

"And it’s time to move on from this Democrat Hoax perpetrated by Radical Left Lunatics in order to deflect from the Great Success of the Republican Party, including our recent Victory on the Democrat ‘Shutdown.'"

His lengthy statement, in part, continued: "The House Oversight Committee can have whatever they are legally entitled to, I DON’T CARE! All I do care about is that Republicans get BACK ON POINT, which is the Economy, 'Affordability'.

"Nobody cared about Jeffrey Epstein when he was alive and, if the Democrats had anything, they would have released it before our Landslide Election Victory. Some 'members' of the Republican Party are being 'used', and we can’t let that happen."

After the emails that referenced Trump were released last week, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said in a statement to UNILAD: "The Democrats selectively leaked emails to the liberal media to create a fake narrative to smear President Trump.

"The ‘unnamed victim’ referenced in these emails is the late Virginia Giuffre, who repeatedly said President Trump was not involved in any wrongdoing whatsoever and 'couldn’t have been friendlier' to her in their limited interactions.

"The fact remains that President Trump kicked Jeffrey Epstein out of his club decades ago for being a creep to his female employees, including Giuffre.

"These stories are nothing more than bad-faith efforts to distract from President Trump’s historic accomplishments, and any American with common sense sees right through this hoax and clear distraction from the government opening back up again."
