Donald Trump issued a bizarre excuse and shut down speculation concerning his health after being accused of falling asleep in public meetings in recent months.

The president's health often made the news in 2025 after a 'large bruise' was spotted on his hand, which his team seemingly attempted to cover up with what appeared to be a massive amount of makeup.

Trump was also diagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency (CVI), a condition that occurs when your leg veins become damaged and can’t work as they should.

It even got to the point where the internet thought the 47th POTUS had died after he hadn't been seen in public for a few days.

While Trump has always strongly maintained he is the ‘healthiest president ever’, particularly after he ‘aced a cognitive test’ last year, some have accused him of nodding off in public meetings.

When the cameras caught Trump 'sleeping', the president said in a recent interview that he was actually resting his eyes...or just blinking.

"I’ll just close. It’s very relaxing to me," he told the Wall Street Journal. "Sometimes they’ll take a picture of me blinking, blinking, and they’ll catch me with the blink."

The president often references 'sleepy Joe' when talking about his predecessor Joe Biden, though some would argue it's Trump who has been drifting off on the job.

During a cabinet meeting broadcast across the US last month, Trump spoke about how he is 'sharper than I was 25 years ago', but then proceeded to spend the next hour plus nodding off.

The discussion surrounding Trump's health has been a hot topic of conversation for a number of months – something which Trump addressed in the WSJ interview.

Trump went on to say the bruises on his hands were due to taking a high dose of aspirin to thin his blood – yet not at the dosage typically recommended by doctors.

"They say aspirin is good for thinning out the blood, and I don’t want thick blood pouring through my heart," the president told WSJ. "I want nice, thin blood pouring through my heart. Does that make sense?"

He then went on to reveal that he takes four times the recommended dose of the anti-inflammatory medication, as he is ‘superstitious’.

Trump stated his skin has become far thinner in his old age and even recalled an incident in which Attorney General Pam Bondi had accidentally cut his hand as the pair high-fived at the Republican National Conference in 2024, when her ring caught his skin.
