A new poll has revealed what the American people truly think of Donald Trump some five months after he retuned to the White House for a second term.

After winning the presidential election against Kamala Harris last November, the Republican president promised to do things differently to his predecessor Joe Biden, and he wasted no time in getting stuck back in - bringing about countless (and often controversial) changes in the process.

Most recently, Trump has introduced his 'Big Beautiful Bill', which led to his very public bust-up with Elon Musk after the Tesla founder dubbed it an 'abomination'.

And of course, his clamp down on immigration has been hitting the headlines after anti-ICE protests engulfed LA following raids in the area, as tensions escalated between law enforcement and protesters.

While Trump has insisted that such changes are to 'Make America Great Again', not everyone in the US has approved of the changes he's been making since being back in the Oval Office.

Crunching the numbers: What do the results of the Trump poll say?

A new poll released by Quinnipiac University on Wednesday (June 11) revealed that just 38 percent of Americans approve of Trump's work as president, while 54 percent disapprove overall.

But what about how people feel on specific policies and areas of politics?

    Economy

The poll found Trump ranked lowly on how he is managing the economy, on top of just 38 percent approving of the president's stance on trade.

    Immigration

Immigration, one of the policies Trump has usually polled well for, has also seen a dip.

Of those involved in the poll, 43 percent said they approved of how the president is handling immigration, while 54 percent disapproved.

    Ukraine and Russia

Americans are not impressed with how Trump has handled the Ukraine-Russia war, with just 34 precent saying they approve of the president's methods.

Polling analyst Tim Malloy said in a statement: "As the Russia-Ukraine war grinds through its third year, Americans make it clear they have little appetite for the way the Trump administration is handling the situation."

    Elon Musk and DOGE

People were also asked about Musk and his involvement with the administration, to which Malloy analysed: "Though Musk isn't as popular with Republicans as he once was, he and DOGE get a hearty high five from a healthy majority of Republicans."

What do the results of the Trump poll mean?

Such opinion polls on the president has led to one strategist claiming the Trump administration will eventually 'collapse'.

Political consultant James Carville stated that the Democrats don’t need to do much more than ‘play possum’ and watch the situation unfold.

One thing you can say is that there's never a dull day with Trump as president.
