Members of the public have been left asking 'what is going on' after a fourth teenage girl was reported missing in Bexar County in less than 10 days, but police have made no indication that there's any connection between the cases.

News of recent missing teens in Bexar County, San Antonio, began with the disappearance of Camila Mendoza Olmos, who was last seen outside her home on Christmas Eve.

Officials launched a days-long search for Olmos, but sadly, the case came to a tragic end when officials discovered her body around 100 yards from her home, in an area of tall grass. The medical examiner has determined that Olmos had taken her own life.

Over the following days, the Bexar County Sheriff's Office shared three additional reports of missing teenagers with varying outcomes, leaving the public increasingly concerned over the matter.

At the time of writing (January 2), two teenagers who remain missing in Bexar County, Texas, including Angelique Johnson, whose disappearance was shared by the police on Christmas Day. Most recently, Anastasia Vasquez went missing, who was last seen on New Year's Day.

Another teen reported missing in the last few days was 14-year-old Sofia Gabriela Peters-Cobos, who was reported missing on December 29 after leaving her home and failing to return. Thankfully, however, police issued an update the following day to say Peters-Cobos had since been found 'alive and well'.

Angelique Johnson

At 17 years old, Johnson is the eldest of the two teens who remain missing as 2026 gets underway, and she was last seen in the 130 block of Exeter Place, near Potranco Road on the northwest side of San Antonio, Texas.

What are the public saying about the cases?

After the Sheriff's Office shared news of Vasquez's disappearance, members of the public responded to share their concerns over what appears to be an influx of missing teenagers.

"What is going on in yall county!," one Facebook user wrote, adding: "This is the 4 girl [sic] in the last two weeks. I pray for all these babies that they get home safety [sic]."

Another added: "ANOTHER ONE??? wtf is going on?!"

However, other users have argued that cases have not necessarily increased, but that the missing teens are simply being reported more quickly.

"There is nothing wrong with the county. I think parents are just being more proactive and reporting their kids missing more, instead of being ashamed and not doing anything till it's too late. This is a good thing," one person wrote.

What have police said about the cases?

Prior to the disappearance of Vasquez, law enforcement addressed the cases of Olmos, Johnson and Peters-Cobos and said there was no confirmed connection between the cases.

According to the Texas Center for the Missing, there were 330,957 people under the age of 18 reported missing in the state in 2024.
