Expert issues major warning to iPhone users ahead of next update

Apple's iOS 18 update is set to be released next month and promises a big shake up

An iPhone expert has warned Apple users to refrain from upgrading the latest update if they have certain phone models.

TikTok star Tyler Morgan has taken to the social media platform to urge iPhone users to consider all the factors before downloading iOS 18 when it is released next month.

Apple announced the big update back in June, promising 'all-new customisation options, the biggest-ever redesign of Photos, powerful updates for staying connected, and Apple Intelligence, the personal intelligence system'.

However, content creator and former Apple Sales Specialist Morgan urged: "If your phone's been feeling a little slow recently absolutely do not upgrade to iOS 18 when it comes out, do not get the beta, do not pass go, do not collect $200 okay?

"If you have an older device and you're like 'I just want to get the newest stuff' that's great but you're going to slow down your phone - maybe not at first but over time.

"These updates, they're not designed for the phones that are out currently, iOS 18 is designed for iPhone 16; I shouldn't say designed - it's meant to be performing at its best with an iPhone 16. It's going to be completely identical on a 15 Pro."

iOS 18 is set to be a major update for Apple users and will see additional customization features - with the home screen, lock screen and control center all undergoing work to its design.

A 'dark look' will also be available and those who use it will be able to slightly alter the appearance of app icons on their screen.

Apple's latest update will also feature tools to assist in writing on your device, through proofread which checks your spelling and grammar and highlights any mistakes you may have typed.

It also has a rewrite feature for Mail which it uses AI to help users - for example if you wrote a causal email but you wished to rewrite it in a formal way you can use the 'professional' setting.

However, despite these cool features Morgan still urged iPhone users to be wary: "It might not be optimal on a 13 or a 12, or 11, definitely not the 10, definitely not anything f***ing under that - I'm not saying you can't get it and have it run, it's just going to strain your device.

"It is a new update that uses more power that is going to really drain your battery, and f***ing deteriorate your battery health like crazy.

"What happens when your battery health deteriorates? Your f**king phone starts lagging, it starts having every issue that makes you want to go and scream 'what have you done'."

Rounding off his video, he added: "I don't want you to experience that. If your phone is running perfectly well and you don't care too much about the new iOS, don't update - it's going to slow your s**t down."

Craig Federighi, Apple’s senior vice president of Software Engineering, said of the update: “We are thrilled to introduce iOS 18. It is a huge release with incredible features, including new levels of customisation and capability, a redesigned Photos app, and powerful ways to stay connected with Messages. There are so many benefits for everyone.

“This release also marks the beginning of a tremendously exciting new era of personal intelligence with Apple Intelligence delivering intuitive, powerful, and instantly useful experiences that will transform the iPhone experience, all with privacy at the core. We can’t wait for users to experience it.”
