Tucker Carlson finally releases a statement after parting ways with Fox News

The former TV presenter went on a rant after being off the air for the last few days.

Tucker Carlson has finally released a statement to the world after he and Fox News parted ways.

It was a massive shock when the network revealed the longtime TV presenter would no longer host his regular show.

There has been a huge fallout since, with more than 700,000 fewer people tuning into the programme and the network's value plummeting.

Everyone has been desperate to know what was behind the split and sadly it looks like we won't get that information just yet.

Carlson took to social media to post a video where he spoke about the concept of a healthy debate.

He says he's been overwhelmed by everyone's kind words over the last few days and has been annoyed at how 'stupid' some of the debates he's seen on television.

The 53-year-old says it's only now that he's been able to take a little break from being in front of the camera that he's taken stock of how these discussions are run.

"They're completely irrelevant," he said into the camera. "They mean nothing. In five years we won't even remember that we had them."

He complained that the 'undeniably big topics' like 'war, civil liberties, emerging science, demographic change, corporate power, and natural resource' get 'virtually no discussion time at all'.

"When was the last time you heard a legitimate debate about about any of those issues?" he asked.

He alleged: "Debates like that are not permitted on American media."

Carlson believes both sides of politics, Republicans and Democrats, shut down any discussion about these 'big topics'.

“Debates like that are not permitted in political media,” Carlson said.

“This moment is too inherently ridiculous to continue, so it wont…the people in charge know this, that’s why they’re hysterical and aggressive, they’re afraid. They’ve given up persuasion, they’re resorting to force. But it won’t work.”

He then went into how people are filled with 'fear' and that there are people who are trying to speak the truth and are becoming powerful.

The video appeared to be thinly veiled at something or someone, however that wasn't exactly clear.

It will be interesting to see whether the fallout of Carlson's departure will last at Fox.

On average, Carlson's programme had been earning about 3.3 millions viewers per night before his departure.

But, according to TVNewser, approximately 2,597,000 tuned in to Fox News Tonight, hosted by the first of a number of rotating hosts, Brian Kilmeade.

That's a decline of more than 20 percent.

Although Fox News Tonight still earned more viewers than competing 8pm slots on MSNBC and CNN, it was still a drop of 21 percent for the usually popular programme.

Instead, Fox's talk show The Five earned the highest cable news ratings on Monday with 3,220,000.
