There's a commercial flight which lasts a grand total of just 90 seconds from its departure airport to its destination.

For anyone who's not a fan of flying, the idea of getting on board a plane to barely sit down before you have to get back off again having reached your destination that speedily probably sounds like heaven.

Unfortunately, it's not a secret super fast plane which gets you to the Maldives in seconds and it's not exactly somewhere you can catch much of a tan, although it is beautiful nonetheless.

The flight route first began in 1967 and operates every single day of the week bar Saturdays, reported by Deccan Herald.

It only has capacity for 10 passengers - the aircraft used a BN2B-26 Islander.

The flight is operated by Loganair and its journeys - if you can really even call it that given it's more of a hop - to and from an airport on one of the islands in Orkney, Scotland called Westray and another called Papa Westray.

The plane travels a total of just 1.7 miles and takes 90 seconds to complete the trip.

Oh, but if the weather conditions are good, then sometimes it doesn't even take over a minute, one trip reported as coming in at a cool 47 seconds, however, bad weather can mean delays - even for such a small plane and trip.

The tickets for the extremely brief stint in the air are said to cost around $30.

Unsurprisingly, there's no in-flight meal service provided.

A video shared to Instagram by Aviation Heaven offers a visual representation of the flight's journey and it's not taken long for people to flood to social media to weigh in.

One user said: "This video took even longer time."

"Please fasten yo... thank you for flying," another added.

A third wrote: "The pilot is very experienced with 10,000+ flight and about 10-15 flying hour."

A fourth said: "'Cabin crew prepare for take off and landing'."

However, others had a more serious point to make.

One person wrote: "There is something called ferries / boats its a thing that floats on water with an engine and travel time could be 10 - 15 minutes. Hope this helps less costly and more productive."

While the plane's journey makes it the shortest current commercial flight across the globe - and takes it the same amount of time as many planes simply take on the runway - the title for the world's smallest runway actually belongs to a completely different destination.

And with it being positioned right next to the edge of a cliff, well, it's up to you whether you'd want to take your chances there anytime soon.
