Many cruise ship passengers have just discovered what upside-down pineapples mean on cabin doors, and the connotations of such will certainly surprise you.

While embarking on a cruise was previously associated with older travellers, there is no question that there's something for everyone aboard the seas nowadays.

Heck, one couple decided to 'sell everything' to live on a ship permanently, while others save money by doing similar.

Experienced cruise ship passengers may think they have seen anything there is to see on board, but apparently there's a hidden message seen on cabin doors that not many are aware of.

Some passengers may decide to stick upside-down pineapples to the entrance of their cabin, which left TikTok user Dominique @blogionistatravels curious as to what it meant.

"When you're on your first cruise and you see that everyone has these little cute pineapples on their door," she penned in a viral video.

After describing the pineapples as 'cute', many TikTok users took to the comments to quickly enlighten the content creator that they actually mean something pretty NSFW.

"Those people are swinging. I learned that at a young age from my first cruise," one person said. "Omg I found out what they mean last cruise we went on. It means, drop-ins are most welcome...and bring friends."

The revelation has certainly shocked many viewers, as many insisted the TikToker should 'keep walking'.

The upside-down pineapple is used quite frequently both on swinger cruises and in everyday life, with its use in the latter being a way to tell others that they’re into that lifestyle discreetly.

TikTok couple Belle and Jase are other passengers to have witnessed upside-down pineapples onboard a cruise ship.

However, there are other ways to show you looking for some NSFW fun aside from the pineapples on your door.

Belle explained in one video how the 'spicy cruise' she attended specifically mandates that you wear necklaces with your name on them.

The pineapple is seemingly key however, as Belle even pondered if it related to the consumption of pineapple within the community as well.

“I bet swinger cruises go through way more pineapple than normal ones do, don’t you think?” the TikToker joked.

I mean, we can only guess.

So, if you ever see an upside-down pineapple around your town, you may be in the presence of swingers. However, don’t be a pest about it; they’re keeping it discreet for a reason.
