A plane was forced to make an emergency landing after a passenger allegedly spotted something crawling in a woman's hair.

Plane sometimes need to make an emergency landing when there is a fault with the aircraft or because of technical difficulties, but what happened on one American Airlines flight was a certainly out of the ordinary.

TikTok creator Ethan Judelson detailed what happened on the flight bound for New York from Los Angeles after it was diverted to Phoenix.

Before further details came to light, Judelson claimed in a TikTok video that American Airlines shared little details on why they had to divert.

"I look around, no one's on the ground, no one's freaking out. I'm like, 'it can't be that dire,'" he explained.

"But we land, and as soon as we land, this woman across the aisle from me shoots up and rushes to the front of the plane."

The TikTok content creator further opened up about the rather bizarre situation in an interview with People.

He told the outlet: "It just seemed like one of those people who, as soon as the seatbelt sign goes off, gets up and tries to be the first to their bag.

"So the girl next to me ... we were both like, 'Why is she so rushed to get off? We're all getting off together, calm down.'"

The staff abroad the flight continued to tell passengers more information would be detailed once on the ground, according to Judelson.

However, the passenger claims the only thing travellers were told was the fact they would have to wait 12 hours for their journey to the Big Apple to continue.

"Right when we land in Phoenix we all get the email saying, 'Here's your voucher for the hotel.' And we're like, 'Hotel, are we staying here?'" Judelson added.

In a statement provided to People, a spokesperson for American Airlines said: "On June 15, American Airlines flight 2201 with service from Los Angeles (LAX) to New York (JFK) diverted to Phoenix (PHX) due to the medical needs of a customer."

The TikTok creator later found out there apparently was a lice outbreak by 'word of mouth' as he overheard another set of passengers discussing why an emergency landing occurred.

"Apparently those two girls, they saw bugs crawling out of the woman's hair ... and alerted the flight attendant," Judelson said in the TikTok video.

Fortunately, the passengers did eventually make it to Los Angeles.
