There's apparently a logical reason why the longest word in the English dictionary is as long as it is, but it takes hours to try to speak out loud as shown by MrBeast.

In our technological era, propelled by text speak and character-restrictive social media platforms, it's not very often we come across longwinded words.

You might not even know that there is one word in the depths of the English lexicon that is so insanely long, it can take you two to three whole hours to speak out loud.

The longest word to feature in the English dictionary is pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis at 45 letters, which refers to a lung disease, which is caused only by inhaling silica particles from a volcanic eruption.

Still, that pales in comparison to the heftiest word to exist, weighing in at 189,829 letters, which apparently didn't even make the cut to the thesaurus...for obvious reasons.

It starts with 'methionyl...' and ends with '...isoleucine' and apparently is so freakishly long for scientific reason.

The word is the full title of Titin, the largest known protein that contains more than 34,000 amino acids - all of which feature like a roll call in its name, and often several times.

For example, methionyl appears 337 times, threonyl 2083 times, glutaminyl 724 times, alanyl 1632 times, prolyl 1834 times... and you get the picture. It goes on.

Yet, no stranger to a challenge, the world's most famous YouTuber, MrBeast, whose real name is Jimmy Donaldson, attempted to pronounce it back in 2017.

Introducing the challenge, MrBeast said: "Today I will be pronouncing the longest word in the entire English language.

"Let me give you a sneak peek of what it looks like," he said as he scrolled on a webpage with the word written out.

"I'm scrolling down, I'm scrolling down, I'm scrolling down, it just honestly, it never ends," he added.

Aside from a quick giveaway to his subscribers, as per the YouTuber's channel, MrBeast attempts to read out the word in a video that dragged on for almost two hours (1:54:47, to be exact.)

At most points in the video, it sounds as though he is almost singing a melody in gibberish, like a character in the video game The Sims.

But he does manage to complete it and, victorious with his achievement, he rejoices: "And that my friends is the longest word in the entire English language.

"Oh boy, I just read all of this. Oh my gosh, that was painful."

Yet, most lexicographers believe the 'word' MrBeast triumphantly read out isn't actually a word so to speak, but a 'verbal formulae,' according to IFLScience.

Some also allege it was made simply to break records after it was 'coined' in the 1930s by Everett M Smith, the former president of the National Puzzlers' League.

The official longest word in the world as per the Guinness World Records is made up of 195 Sanskrit characters, around 428 letters in the Latin alphabet, which describes the Tamil Nadu region of India.
