Relationship coach claims women should date men ten years older than them

Jake Maddock promises clients a '10/10 relationship', but his approach to love and dating divides opinion

A divisive relationship coach reckons women should date men who are at least ten years older than them.

Aussie Jake Maddock promises clients a ‘10/10 relationship’ (if that relationship is cisgender and straight, by the looks of things).

His ‘tough love’ approach hasn’t always garnered the best reactions, but nonetheless he’s forged a successful career helping single people to find love and has nearly 75,000 followers on Instagram

In his latest interview, Jake opened up about the ‘ideal’ age gap in a relationship, claiming there are biological reasons a woman should date an older man.

He told Femail: “Men and women mature emotionally at different times.

“According to experts, men take about ten years longer to become emotionally mature than for a woman.

“An older man is likely to be less commitment phobic and more decisive about where he wants to take the relationship.

“He will also have a more mature viewpoint when it comes to solving problems and relationship issues.”

The relationship coach also told the outlet that an older man’s ‘attractiveness’ will be enhanced due to his increased ‘masculine energy’.

He continued: “He will have made his mistakes and is unlikely to repeat them. He won't play silly games, he chooses you for better reasons and will appreciate you more.”

Jake, who is married himself, went on to list a number of examples, all of them drawn from Hollywood couples.

“George Clooney was clearly very careful about the women he chose to date,” he said.

“He was still a bachelor at age 52 when he met Amal Alamuddin in 2013. He is seventeen years her senior, which didn't faze either of them.

“Jerry Seinfeld married Jessica Sklar in 1999, when he was 45 and she was 28. They are still together.

“Alec Baldwin began dating Hilaria Thomas in 2011, when he was 53 and she was 27. They are still together.

“Harrison Ford began dating Calista Flockhart in 2002, when he was 60 and she was 38. They are still together.”

But some have criticised this approach due to the fact that it is limited, and only applies to a certain percentage of the population.

For more of the same, a fellow dating coach and TikToker @ask.nelly previously suggested men should should be picking up the bill if they ask a woman out on a date.

She shared a stitch clip that started off with a man saying that if women think a man must buy them dinner to be worth their time, they are ‘entitled’.

However, Nelly strongly disagreed and explained: “It is so repulsive when men talk like that, but let me provide a little refresher on how dating works because clearly some people need it.

“So if a man is asking a woman out on a date and he is romantically interested in her, obviously, and he’s not picking up the bill, it’s not that she’s entitled.

“It is, though, one of these five things: number one, he’s not chivalrous, he’s not a gentleman.

“Number two, he’s cheap. Number three, he can’t afford the date.

"Number four, he doesn’t respect women and number five, he doesn't see her a prize to be won, because a man’s level of interest is always correlated to his level of effort.”

While many people agreed with her thoughts, others preferred things a bit more equal - once again proving there’s no one-size-fits-all approach when it comes to dating and relationships.
