A sex expert has revealed the 'mysterious' reason why there is a shortage of male adult film stars in 2025.
There certainly remains a taboo about earning a living and making a career for yourself in the adult entertainment industry - whether that's porn or OnlyFans - particularly with men, it seems.
According to statistics provided by Zipdo, a whopping 80 percent of adult film performers are women, leading to a clear shortage of men working in porn.
In a column for the Metro, sex expert Melissa Todd explained why this may be the case, and the impact it is having on the adult film sector as a whole.

Todd explained how it is common for porn producers to advertise for new roles on social media platforms like X, and while men do apply, they often do not show up.
"Maybe men feel their identity and self-esteem is more closely tied to their sexual performance than women," the sex expert wrote.
She added: "Maybe porn being blamed for every societal ill is also a factor. We know young people are becoming increasingly puritanical and having less sex than previous generations.

"There is simply a drought among young men wanting to enter this industry. But, I guess it’s a particular skill to climax to order before a roomful of strangers."
The process of having an audition can also be an unpleasant one, Todd went on to explain. "Surrounded by actors, camera crew, producer, wardrobe, make up artist, and a (usually female) director barking, ‘Now get an erection!’ he’ll often find himself incapable and humiliated."
This leads to many more women becoming adult film stars because they have it 'way easier', according to the sex expert.
"Girls have it way easier," she claimed. "We can so easily fake every stage of arousal. A good squirt of lube, a healthy dose of panting, sighing, noisy screaming. But you probably don’t need me to tell you that."

To be honest, seeing less people apply to be an adult film star should hardly come as a surprise, considering we are having less sex than ever.
In 2017, a study in the Archives of Sexual Behavior found that the average adult has sex around once per week.
These results were down by around nine times per year when compared to another study conducted in the 1990s.

Meanwhile, a study published last year titled 'The State of Dating: How Gen Z is Redefining Sexuality and Relationships', in conjunction with the dating app Feeld, found that Gen Zers are having less sex and fewer relationships than generations that came before.
"Also, nearly half of Gen Z reported that they were single, compared to only one-fifth of Millennials, Gen X, and Boomers," said Lead researcher Dr Justin Lehmiller.
