Expert shares important advice on 'frustrating' sex problem that's causing issues for Gen Z relationships

An expert has offered advice to young people who are struggling to have sex because of their living situation, including a ‘private’ place where they may be able to get their rocks off.

Everyone has their preferred place to get intimate with their partner. Some like the good old-fashioned bedroom setting, finding comfort in the familiarity. Others like to spice things up in the kitchen, set up on the living room floor, or even canoodle on their balconies.

While the International Society of Sexual Medicine stated that there is no healthy frequency of sex, research published in 2019 found that the average cohabitating American couple is having sex three times per month.

Unfortunately, Gen Z is the generation having the least sex, and it may have something to do with the fact that rising house prices are forcing them to live with their parents for longer.

Research has found that young people are struggling with a lack of privacy, with 40 percent of respondents to a recent Lovehoney survey said their living situation directly impacts their bedroom action.

This ‘frustrating’ situation is leading many born from 1997 onwards to look for alternative places to get intimate, including their cars.

According to the Law Offices of Kerry L. Armstrong, having sex in a car is not explicitly illegal in any jurisdiction in the US.

However, engaging in sexual activity in a vehicle can lead to legal repercussions if it involves acts considered indecent or violates public decency laws.

Shouse Law Group stated that while having sex in public view is an offence, doing the deed on private property is legal.

Georgina Vass, a sex and relationships therapist working with Cazoo, said that more and more young people are actually viewing their vehicle as one of the few private spaces that they have access to.

According to her research, three in ten Gen Zers have been intimate in their cars in the past year. Almost half of those polled (45 percent) who said they still live at home have claimed it’s hard to find private time with a partner.

She said that planning could be a saving grace for anyone who feels unable to get freaky while living with their parents.

“If you know certain times when the house will be empty, use them to reduce pressure to always improvise,” Vass explained.

However, if you’re being forced to consider getting intimate in a public space, such as your car, you should ‘start with an honest conversation’, as per the expert.

“Ask each other: Would this feel exciting or would it feel exposed? If either partner feels anxious about being caught or uncomfortable in the space, that tension can override pleasure,” she explained.

“When a car is the best option, preparing it thoughtfully can make the difference between feeling cramped and stressed versus connected and comfortable.”

If you’re not quite ready for car sex but need to get your freak on outside of your bedroom, then there are a handful of other venues you could utilize.
