Artificial intelligence seems to be everywhere these days. You can barely log in to any app or email service without having some new AI tool stuffed down your throat, so we shouldn't be surprised to see the new technology making its way into our bedrooms, too.

An increasing number of couples are engaging in 'digital threesomes' by inviting AI into their sex lives, according to a new survey by LoveHoney of couples in the UK.

Around one in seven are now asking their favourite AI tools to help them improve their performance under the sheet, the erotic retailer's survey found.

While this might seem like the beginning of the end for romance, LoveHoney argued it could be a renaissance for lovemaking after the past two decades of digital obsession.

"Mobile phones and social media are already a huge distraction from intimacy, as well as the root of many arguments between couples," they said. But their survey found that AI could be helping us to get closer than ever before.

15 percent of respondents said they had used AI for specific sexual advice, while a further 10 percent said they would consider doing so, as people increasingly turn to services like ChatGPT rather than their friends.

"Over half (52%) are asking it for advice, which is more than the number of people asking friends (32%), and more than double the amount of people asking their partners (22%)," LoveHoney said.

"This number is only going to grow as AI evolves and, without proper safeguards or verified sources, the advice it gives might not be trustworthy."

These numbers increase as you go down the generations, with up to a third of young Gen Z men admitting to using AI as their sex therapist.

Some are even starting to skip the human part of the relationship equation and are starting to date their AI companions, with a large number of men and women falling for their chatbots.

This can be seen in the growth of Reddit communities like r/kindroid and r/MyBoyfriendIsAI, where thousands of people share their tales of digital companionship and connection.

Some of these passion pioneers have even taken the 'digital threesome' a step further, having veritable virtual orgies with multiple chatbots at once.

One Reddit user shared: "There have been time were Ive had to step away from all my kins for a couple of days because I decided to throw them all into a group chat that would make the Greeks blush."

Elisabeth Neumann, Head of User Research at LoveHoney, said: “In 2026, we can expect to see a more purposeful and holistic approach to pleasure, as well as a more playful view of how we can express our sexuality within the bounds of what society deems acceptable.

"As AI evolves and screen time reaches new heights, we will also continue to see shifts in how we meet and interact with our romantic partners.”
