Saudi Arabia is building a tourist resort 'the size of Belgium' in the middle of the sea

Saudi Arabia has multiple ambitious projects in the works, including a tourist resort set to be the size of Belgium.

Saudi Arabia is planning for a future where they are the tourist hotspot of the world, and a new project they have in the works will likely help them get there.

Incase you haven’t heard about one of the most ambitious projects coming out of Saudi Arabia, I'll remind you.

'The Line' has garnered a lot of attention as the country hopes to turn a desert into a $1 trillion super-city.

The project was doubted as 'almost impossible', but 'The Line' is due to be completed in 2030.

But this isn’t about that.

This is about a seemingly underrecognized endeavor in the Red Sea, appropriately named the Red Sea Project or just The Red Sea.

The project is funded by the Crown Prince and will be on the coastline of Saudi Arabia.

It is set to be home to over 90 islands, with 50 hotels and over 8,000 rooms to provide the ultimate tourist getaway by 2030.

As well as this, there is an expectation that more than 1,000 residential properties across 22 island resorts, mountain retreats and desert hideaways will be available.

The project is already well underway and those involved believe the overall scale will mean the Red Sea will be the size of Belgium, as it will cover an area of whopping 28,000 square kilometers.

The project will eventually be home to over 90 islands, with 50 hotels.

While the full scope of the activities available to those who choose to visit isn’t yet realized, those behind the project have outlined some of the impressive ventures people can engage in.

Guests will be able to ‘trek through dormant volcanoes, swim the fourt largest barrier reef in the world, complete a Bear Grylls Survival Academy designed by the man himself as well as entertainment expected at most tourist resorts.

For those wondering how you would even get to a resort so big, you can rest easy as the Red Sea Airport was opened in September last year to allow guests quick access to their place of leisure.

The project also hopes to use 100 percent renewable energy when it is completely up and running in 2030.

Guests will have a wide arrange of activities to do across the islands.

According to the project’s website: “These responsible tourism destinations will collectively enhance Saudi Arabia’s luxury tourism and sustainability offerings.

“[They will go] above and beyond to protect the natural environment and enhance it for future generations. RSG is working on new projects along the same coastline that will be announced soon.”

And if all of this has piqued your interest, while it isn’t completely finished yet, the first resort was opened in 2023.

There are plans to open a following 16 over 2024/2025, finally finishing all 50 by 2030.
