As the politics between Canada and the US becomes ever more fierce, citizens on both sides of the border will soon be feeling the pinch.

As the leaders of both sovereign states butt heads, a tweet has once again gone viral of a Canadian cafe that created a 'Trump sandwich', which included hilarious ingredients, with the main filler being 'baloney'.

The post has resurfaced online as the two nations have become locked in a trade war, which has reached boiling point, but the wheels were in motion as early as February 1 when President Donald Trump signed an executive order.

The order imposed 'catastrophic' tariffs to 'hold China, Mexico and Canada accountable for their promises to halt the flood of poisonous drugs into the US'.

Trump placed 25 percent tariffs on goods imported from Canada and Mexico and a 10 percent tax on China, but to back this further, he also declared a national emergency under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act.

It has since snowballed into Trump threatening to hit Canada's dairy farmers with a 241 percent tariff on exports into the US, while Premier of Ontario Doug Ford took aim at the pockets of everyday Americans through a hefty hike to their electric bills.

It's the residents of both Canada and the US that will take the brunt of the trade war.

Now, a post from 2016 has gone viral once-more on Twitter as it made jest of Trump.

It read: "#TrumpSandwich. Funny. But also sad. Forget about debating on substance- *this* is the state of US political discourse today."

With the Canadian cafe's A-board reading: "TRUMP SANDWICH - WHITE BREAD - Full of BALONEY - W/ RUSSIAN DRESSING AND A SMALL PICKLE."

Residents on both sides of the border enjoyed the message. One user wrote: "As an American I absolutely love this!"

"I’m a Trump guy, but I’ll give it to you, this is solid," added another.

While a third typed: "Love that Trump Sandwich wit from Canada, sharp, funny, and oh-so Canadian! Standing tall against tariffs with humor and heart. Cheers to our northern neighbors for keeping it real!"

It comes as Premier of Ontario Ford Premier vowed to stop the flow of electricity to hundreds of thousands of Americans in areas are New York, Minnesota, and Michigan, which rely on the Ontario-powered grids, if Trump continues to 'escalate' the trade war.

At a press conference on Monday (March 10), Ford said: "We will apply maximum pressure to maximise our leverage.

"That's why today we're moving forward with a 25 percent surcharge on electricity exports.

"For the 1.5 million American homes and businesses that Ontario powers, homes and businesses in Minnesota, Michigan and New York, this surcharge will cost families and businesses in these states up to $400,000 dollars each and every single day.

"On an average, this will add around $100 dollars per month to the bills of hardworking Americans."
