Rapper 50 Cent has come under fire after sharing a controversial post following Zohran Mamdani's mayoral victory.

Mamdani has now been elected as New York City's new mayor and is also the first Muslim and South Asian to take up this post.

The 34-year-old has been catching people’s attention for weeks now, ever since he called out the policies of his opponent, Andrew Cuomo.

Mamdani also made headlines when he hit out at President Donald Trump when it was confirmed he was the new mayor.

All in all, he’s not been shy about expressing his opinions or calling out people he believes aren’t correct.

Oddly, this doesn’t just include politicians, but rappers too.

Mamdani caused some controversy after announcing his plans to raise the corporate tax rate to 11.5 percent and also introduce a flat two percent tax for New Yorkers whose salary goes over $1 million a year.

Obviously, the rich and famous wouldn’t be happy about this, but Mamdani seemingly doesn’t care.

One person who appears to be annoyed about the policy is none other than 50 Cent, who took to his Instagram account to post an AI-generated picture of a gravestone that seemed to imply the city was dead.

It read: "RIP NYC. FOUNDED 1624. DIED 2025."

However, social media users were quick to share their thoughts on the post.

One wrote: "Rich people being upset about elections is a good thing for regular citizens."

Another added: "LMAOOOOOOOO CRY HARDER."

While a third commented: "I liked you before but going against Mamadani is not a good look coming from a rich celebrity. Mamadani’s policies will help the lower income families and people struggling getting food on the table. I am excited to see what he will do as a mayor. I see this as being great for New York!"

50 Cent previously suggested that he would pay for the politician to leave NYC.

Speaking about Mamdani in June, the star said: "Where did he come from? Whose friend is this? I’m not feeling this plan. No. I will give him $258,750 and a first class one-way ticket away from NY. I’m telling Trump what he said too!"

However, during an interview on MSNBC's The Beat with Ari Melber this week, Mamdani responded: "He’s a critic! I didn’t even know what my salary would be until I opened up Instagram and saw this thing that was like, '50 Cent offers Mamdani x-amount of money'.

"I was like, 'That’s a very specific amount of money. Oh my God!'"

He then made a surprising joke, admitting: "Even though we have a disagreement on tax policy, every time I get a death threat, I still listen to 'Many Men'."

Mamdani also explained why he wanted to introduce the new taxes, revealing: "I continue to think that having the top one percent on New York City who are making more than one million dollars a year, having them pay two percent more for an economic agenda that would transform every New Yorkers’ life, including their own, is something that is worth while.

"The reason I say including their own is when you see a city like ours that is underfunding its city agencies, that is pulling back on the most basic things like library services and trash cans, everybody feels the effects of that."

UNILAD has contacted representatives of 50 Cent for comment.
