Man who just became a millionaire shares 8 rules he followed to do it

I think we'd all like to be a millionaire, right? Well, thankfully, an actual millionaire has provided tips to help us get there.

I think a lot of us can only dream of having $1 million in our bank account and all the fun we'd have with such a massive wealth.

Of course, a lot of us would need to win the lottery to achieve such a high sum, but one man has explained how he has done it the hard way.

You don't need to get lucky to become a millionaire, and there are a lot of examples to prove that.

One of them is an individual who has taken to Reddit to explain how they recently became a millionaire - but all thanks to a lot of hard work.

The millionaire has shared eight rules that he followed to reach the magic figure in his bank account.

As part of an 'Ask me anything' (AMA) post, the anonymous man penned: "I just hit $1M in net worth. I grew up black, and poor with a single mom. It took me longer than I planned to get here, but I made it.

"I will feel a lot better when I have $1M in liquid assets. I should hit that benchmark in 2-3 more years."

Just so we don't have to believe his word, the man provided proof that he does in fact have $1 million net worth to his name.

And in the comments section to the Reddit post, the man provided advice for those hoping to follow in his footsteps.

He began the lengthy thread with his first tip: "I mean.....I actually suck at budgeting. But to counter that, I always 'pay myself' first. Meaning I put a large sum away for savings - so it's like it's never had it."

Then the millionaire listed seven more tips we should all consider if we want to follow in his footsteps.

After paying yourself, you'll want to invest in the stock market, while the man also advises to start doing that early on if you can, pointing out he started when he was 23.

The man then advised those who want to get rich to never get store credit cards and to pay down your bad debt, starting with the highest interest rate.

He then spoke about figuring out your passive income, while admitting it is hard to 'cheap' yourself into savings.

And perhaps the most important piece of advice is to not spend money on many of the non-essentials.

The man explained: "Only spend money on sh*t that matters - so I just don't spend a lot on clothes, food or jewellery. I save my $$ and spend it on a couple of things a year I care about like travel."
