If you were planning to reenact Kevin McCallister's iconic trip to New York in Home Alone 2 anytime soon, I sure hope you've been saving up...
Kevin — played by Macauley Culkin — famously goes to New York on his own in the Home Alone sequel after his parents lose him at the airport for a second time (what are the odds?).
On his trip, he definitely doesn't live frugally, booking himself in for a luxury stay at the Plaza Hotel and ordering room service to his heart's content using his dad's credit card.
At the time of the movie hitting theaters in 1992, a one-night stay in a suite at the Plaza would have reportedly cost $1,100, but this is far from the case now.

According to new analysis by iSelect.com, the same suite would now set you back an eye-watering $6,244 today, marking a massive 468 percent increase.
In regards to Kevin's room service feast, that will have cost around $967 in 1992, but now you'd be forking out $2,233. Ouch.
Even the youngster's simple three-top ice cream sundae has gone up in price, increasing to 24 bucks from $18.

These figures don't even include his limo trip in the Big Apple or any of the taxi rides he will have likely taken to visit sites like Central Park's Gapstow Bridge and the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree.

The real kicker? If the McCallisters had travel insurance at the time of Kevin's adventures it's unlikely their insurer would have paid out for the thousands of dollars built up by the boy.
Adrian Bennett, the general manager of General Insurance, explained (via Fox News): "Unfortunately, a minor travelling alone without a parent or guardian’s knowledge would invalidate most travel insurance policies.

"In Kevin’s case, the lack of consent, the unauthorised use of a credit card, and the luxurious choices he made on his New York stay would not be covered. And remember, the best way to enjoy the holiday season is together, so make sure not to leave anyone behind… or home alone."

While Home Alone 2 is certainly a family favorite in most households over the holiday season, Macauley Culkin admitted that it wasn't one of his go-to Christmas movies.
Recently speaking at 'A Nostalgic Night with Macaulay Culkin' event to mark the 35th anniversary of the first Home Alone movie, Culkin was asked about his favorite holiday movies.

"A big one in our household growing up was A Christmas Story, certainly was always on," he said. "A lost classic or one that people kind of forget: Scrooged... Scrooged is awesome though. Yeah, we watch it all the time. Those were ones that really stick out."
